  • How to Help those impacted by the fires
To Our Downtown Business Community,

We wanted to resend these resources as this wildfire crisis continues and more members of our community are asked to evacuate. Many of our Downtown businesses have also been sending us messages to find out how they can help. We know many of your businesses are still suffering because of Covid, so we know not everyone is in a position to give. We hope these resources can be helpful. Stay safe!

How to Give

While many local restaurants have already given hundreds of free meals to evacuees, we are hearing from several resources that evacuation centers are at capacity and don't have the volunteer base to accept and distribute meals. The same applies to the Cal Fire camps where firefighters are stationed. We know many businesses would still like to contribute so here are a few suggestions:

  • Offer free curbside meals to patrons to who can show proof that they have been forced to evacuate. We've seen several businesses offer this already.

  • Promote a fundraiser for any length of time and allocate a percentage of your store's profits to a relief effort. Tag Downtown Santa Cruz or send your content to marketing@downtownsantacruz.com so we can also share.

  • Donations: the County is asking that all donations be in new condition. Please bring all donations to the Santa Cruz County Warehouse at 1082 Emeline St. Santa Cruz they will be distributed evenly to evacuation facilities from there

Emergency Preparedness Plans

Now is the time to prepare for emergencies! The Santa Cruz Volunteer Center has free programs in English and Spanish for families, seniors, and everyday Californians to get ready.

With many of us still sheltering in place, and many more now displaced, NOW is the time to create or update your emergency/disaster preparedness plans.

Text LISTOSCA to 72345 to receive easy plans via text: 7 days of texts, a text class, which will help you get prepared.

They are asking for help to get the word out via newsletter, website, social media or elsewhere for your customers, friends, and family.
