Acaibo is an outrageously good Cabernet produced in an elegant, complex style by Claire and Gonzague Lurton. The Lurtons also own and produce a few Bordeauxs including Dufort Viven Margaux and Haut Bages Liberal. They are extremely talented winemakers. We tasted Acaibo last year for the first time, the 2013 vintage which is only 56% Cabernet with the winemaker Claire Lurton who told us at the time that the 2014 would be a true Cabernet. The 2013 was and is exceptional, ultimately receiving 90 plus point scores from every reviewer, so we asked why the change in blend. Her answer was because
" the Cabernet in our Chalk Hill Block is coming in richer than any I have ever seen".
d the 2014 Acaibo Wednesday. It is a stunning bottle of wine. The nose is possessed with blackberry and violets. The flavor profile
is rich in dark plum, blackberry and cherry. The finish is lengthy with toast and smoke and Pichon Lalande like acids and mineral, i.e. Chalk Hill. The tannin layer is fine yet porous and intrig
We seared a New York. The Acaibo elevated the steaks beefy components. The porous tannins and wild berries were incredible with the texture and char.
The components and complexity of the Acaibo reminded us of Classic vintages of Phelps Insignia, Rubicon or Dominus. The fruit is certainly as rich as those Napa offerings. FYI, we have it on good authority that the Acaibo will not be under $100 for too many vintages to come. The quality is right there with its $100 plus peers. R&M
Love the black currant, slate, violet and lilac aromas. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a wonderful finish. This is polished and linear. Beautiful backbone through the center palate. Almost all cabernet sauvignon makes this fantastic. Drink or hold. 05/23/17
This is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, made by Bordeaux winemakers Gonzague and Claire Lurton from their Chalk Hill property as well as other sites around the county. Leathery and earthy at its core, it's possessed of a soft grip of cassis and violet, structured and smooth on the palate with a light touch to the ripeness.
