Cade McCutcheon Wins NRHA Non Pro Derby aboard Custom Made Gun at Age 15

At only 15 years old and too young to drive his new award trailer, Cade McCutcheon made NRHA history as the youngest competitor to win the Level 4 NRHA Non Pro Derby aboard Custom Made

friend of the McQuay's, Gary Raak of Twin City Trailers South.  After his nail-biting Reserve Championships at the 2014 NRHA Non Pro Futurity and the 2015 National Reining Breeders Classic, the win was huge for Cade, who said, "It's so exciting and definitely sweet."

 

Custom Made Gun

Custom Made Gun is a four year-old stallion by McQuay Stables' famous seven million dollar sire Gunner and out of McQuay's great mare, Custom Made Dunit (by Hollywood Dun It). After being started by Tim in the Futurities as a three year old, "Custom" became Cade's mount for the 2015 National Reining Breeders Classic, where the pair tied for Reserve Champion in the competitive L4 Non Pro Classic.

Custom Made Gun's full sister, Customized Gun, was also bred, raised, and trained by McQuay Stables. Winner of over $93,000, "Customized" was the 2012 NRHA Non Pro

Custom Made Dunit

Custom Made Dunit (dam of Custom Made Gun and Customized Gunner) is a daughter of the McQuay Stables' NRHA Hall of Fame $6 Million sire Hollywood Dun It, and has produced earners of over $140,000. As Hollywood Dun It offspring hold a special place in the hearts of the McQuay family, seeing the incredible legacy passed down through generations makes the win even more enjoyable.

Chex From A Star (Gunner x Chex From Hollywood) and Dontmesswithmygun (Gunner x Miss Tinseltown), both owned by Silva Reining Horses, earned nice paychecks with Tim on board in the NRHA Open Derby Finals.  Tim also earned L4 finalist honors and paychecks aboard new mount Guns R For Shootin (also sired by Gunner, owned by Humphrey Quarter Horses).

Taking home top ten placings and a combined paycheck of nearly $15,000 for his efforts, Tim was pleased with the performance of each horse and looks forward to future shows with them, saying "These are three really nice horses. This was only Dontmesswithmygun's second show in her career, and I see a great future for her. I'm a new rider for Guns R For Shootin, and I've really enjoyed training him for the past several weeks and showing him. I look forward to taking what I learned about all three of them during the show and building on it. I'm really proud of how all of our horses showed at the Derby this year, and it was great seeing them put out such strong effort. I can't wait to get to the next show with them!"

 

The next stop for the McQuay Stables Reining team is the Tulsa Reining Classic, which hosts two Futurities and a Derby, along with two full slates of ancillary classes, the NRHA's South Central Affiliate Regional Championships, and a host of Youth and Educational activities.
