Cultivating Relationships
and Understanding
Across Borders

Join us in giving thanks to God for Daniel Cifuentes, founding member of Café Justo, who retired this year after serving as director of production for 22 years.

"We want to work so people can migrate if they want to, not because they have to."

Adrian Gonzalez, Café Justo Director of Customer Service

Dear friends,

In November, the Café Justo cooperative was unsure if they would be able to continue the incredible work that they had begun over 22 years before. A combination of inflation, pricing of their coffee that had not been adjusted for years, the devaluation of the dollar which led to them receiving 15% less for their already underpriced coffee, and pressures in the global market led to cash flow issues and eventually supply issues leading them to run out of coffee before this year's harvest came in which, in turn, frustrated many customers and exacerbated Café Justo's cash flow issues.

While proud of what they had been able to accomplish, they were seriously wondering if they could continue forward. They decided to address their cash flow issues by requesting and receiving a loan from Frontera de Cristo, which will allow them to buy a year's supply of green beans from their coffee farming members. They also did an analysis of the costs of their coffee and raised prices accordingly.

The cooperative is emerging from the 2025 crisis and is poised to become stronger than ever. During the crisis, many of their customers maintained their loyalty, and many understandably sought other providers.

Your purchase of Café Justo through the Coffee and Compassion page is not only a great value for high quality organic coffee, it also helps the families of Café Justo address the root causes of migration, will help them emerge from the difficulty of last year, and provides coffee to hospitality centers that welcome thousands of persons who have been forced to migrate because of violence, poverty, or family separation.

For many of the coffee farmers, just seeing their children have educational opportunities that they did not have is one of the main benefits of being part of the Café Justo cooperative.

All proceeds above and beyond the cost of the coffee and shipping goes to buying coffee to donate to hospitality centers through the Love Mercy, Do Justice initiative.

For every coffee order of 3 pounds or more, your name will be entered into a raffle to win a 50% scholarship for the 2026 Border-to-Border Delegation! (see the Border-to-Border flyer at the bottom of this page...)

This video from the Café Justo Dedication 10 years ago, shares some of the coffee shop's dreams. We are grateful that those dreams are being realized and pray that the next ten years will have even more impact in the community.

Migrant Resource Center Celebrates 20th Anniversary

On June 30, the Migrant Resource Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary welcoming over 230,000 men, women and children who have been expelled from the US into Agua Prieta or who have come to the border seeking asylum. The MRC is a partnership of Frontera de Cristo and Centro de Atencion al Migrante Exodus. Cafe Justo has proudly provided hundreds of pounds of coffee throughout these past 20 years.

Love Mercy, Do Justice

AS PEOPLE OF GOD, WE ARE CALLED, IN MICAH 6:8, to “love mercy” and to “do justice,” but sometimes non-profit ministries with small budgets often feel forced to choose between the two. They can show mercy by demonstrating hospitality, but on a tight budget they may unknowingly buy supplies from unjust industries that take advantage of migrant workers and Mexican farmers. On the other hand, they could boycott those industries to act justly, but then they may be unable to buy the supplies they need to demonstrate merciful hospitality.

Frontera de Cristo’s Love Mercy, Do Justice initiative is working

to change this narrative by helping ministries do both—to love mercy

and to do justice—with just a cup of coffee.

We are working to connect Café Justo, a Mexican fair trade plus coffee cooperative, with other hospitality and migration ministries in Agua Prieta and beyond. With generous seed grant from the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Legacy Grant several years ago, a substantial gift from a long-time Cafe Justo supporter, and donations from supporters near and far, we commit to an annual bulk coffee purchase specifically for our partners in ministry. Then, throughout the year, we provide them with 100% organic, freshly roasted coffee to be shared with those they serve as a symbol of God’s justice and mercy.

You can support the Love Mercy, Do Justice initiative by directly purchasing coffee and/or making a donation in the name of a ministry of your choice.

Enjoy delicious 100% organic coffee cultivated, roasted, and shipped by the Café Justo cooperative. Online orders received by 8am on Tuesdays (Arizona Time) will be processed and shipped on Thursday of the same week.

To order by mail instead of online, just download this form.
