Cal Club News Blast
December 2021
We will be back to the track before we know it! 2022 racing starts out with the first SCCA US Majors in 2022 in the West Coast at Buttonwillow Raceway.

Traditionally this event has been at Auto Club Speedway, in 2022 we were not able to secure a date with the Speedway in time to build our schedule for the year and the lack of cooperation with the Speedway on our safety concerns at Auto Club and numerous other issues, Cal Club decided to hold the event at Buttonwillow Raceway!

This year we will not only be remembering Andy Porterfield but will be celebrating the life of long time member and friend to all racers Victor Hertfelder who passed away in November.

Join us for a two day event with qualifying and racing both days! Test day on Friday January 14, 2022 held by the track. For more information on Test Day, Garages, Tires contact Buttonwillow Raceway at 661-764-5333.

Registration will open December 11, 2021

Progress Report
Les Phillips, President

With our original road course continually booked for all sorts of racing activities, a number of years ago we moved ahead to create another 2.5 mile race course at the Northern end of the property, now 500 acres. When we completed BRP Track one in December of 1995 I described Kern County as one of the friendliest Counties in California to do business. Today, I would rate Kern as one of the most difficult bureaucracies within California. Because of our many problems with government agencies, COVID and ensuing supply chain issues we have faced constant challenges and delays.

Finally, we formally applied for our first of five building permits in April 2020. As of November 17, 2021 the county Planning Department released 3 of the five permits we need to proceed. As a result, the pacing item for completion became reason we have delayed the paving until more ideal weather in the spring and closer to the time we will have finished the buildings.

Now due to supply and labor issues our best hope for opening and racing is the summer of 2022. This effort will ultimately become a major motorsport complex to be enjoyed by the racing community. Cal Club can be proud for their contribution
Message from our
Regional Executive
Penelope Coy
We are pleased to announce that Cal Club has had a very good year and is ending in the black despite the Covid protocols that we had to put in place to keep everyone safe.

We look forward to an even more prosperous new year. The delays in opening the new track have been unavoidable but it will be worth the wait. Les Phillips, President of Buttonwillow Raceway Park will have an update on the construction issues in this Blast. We have several new programs that will be initiated toward the end of 2022 which will add a lot of interest to our already busy schedule.

None of this would be possible without YOU, our drivers and volunteer race officials as you make our racing events happen. Thank You!! For those members out there who haven’t been to the races in a while, 2022 is the time to come on out and join us in the fun, bring your families and friends.

Happy Holidays and see you in January at Buttonwillow Raceway!

Yours for the sport,
Penelope Coy
