Hoosier Racing Tire
SCCA Super Tour
February 19-21, 2021
Buttonwillow Raceway
|
The first Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour for the Western conference will be held February 19-21, 2021 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. In 2021 we will be using configuration 25A Clockwise 25 A Track Map
The traditional Spring date in April was moved to February in 2020 and it proved to be a great event, so why not try it again! This will be a three day event with a Test and Tune session held on Thursday February 18, 2021. Contact Buttonwillow Raceway at 661-764-5333 for information on the Test day. In addition, RV spots, Garages, and Tire orders are also handled by the track office.
We hope that we will be able to have a evening social at this event along with Cal Club's Annual Member's meeting and awards for the 2020 Championship year.

It's a new year, time to tech your driver's gear!
|
Well we made it through 2020 and 2021 is here. For the first race of 2021 all drivers will need to have their driver's gear checked, regardless of the car's annual tech date. Remember the Car's annual tech and your driver's yearly gear checks are two different things. All helmets will need a 2021 SCCA helmet sticker on them in order for you to go out on track for all sessions.
The 2010 helmet will still be usable until the end of 2021. If you have a 2010 helmet start making plans to get a 2015 or newer one by December 31, 2021
If you have any questions for tech, please reach out to our Chief of tech, Lonny Sheek at 562-221-0483 or lsheek@verizon.net

Cal Club's Volunteer Race Officials
|
Did you know it takes about 80 or more SCCA Race Official Volunteers to put on an event? They pay their way and give of their time because they love racing as much as the drivers do! Cal Club has set up several ways to help them out. At Buttonwillow we have an 18 bed mobile home, complete with kitchenette, satellite TV, showers free of charge on a first come first served basis. Cal Club provides lunches, and drinks at stations and evening socials as well as a Worker Chip system that allows the volunteer to use them as money in the cafe, tire shop, merchandise stand or trade them in to pay their SCCA membership. Cal Club also honors those volunteers that work 90% of the events each year with special awards at the end of the year.
Have you noticed the Donation area in your entry for the volunteers? You may wonder what happens when I donate to this fund? Well, the money collected every event is given out in $50 checks to our volunteers. The total fund for the weekend is added up, divided by 50 and all the volunteer names are put in a hat and names pulled by the number of checks available that weekend.
We are starting a raffle each weekend to add to the volunteer fund. You can buy and see the raffle items at the Cal Club Merchandise and Results booth know as the Question Box, and remember you can always add a donation to the Volunteer fund at on site registration.
We want to thank all of you that give to the volunteer fund, it is much appreciated. As you know with out our Race Officials we can not have an event. Give them a big thumbs up, go by their area and say thank you or better yet bring someone with you that might want to volunteer! We are always needing more help and their are all kinds of positions from those that are early risers, to those that like to sleep in or those that want to be indoors, those that want to touch race cars and or be in the thick of the action. Through out the year we will be featuring a different specialty each day of our events. Here are our first two:

Meet the Cal Club
Tech Team
From left to right: Mike, Peggy, Chuck, Chief Lonny, Preston and Mike
While much of the attention at an SCCA/Cal Club Road Race may be on the colorful, curb-hopping, tire-smoking action on the racetrack, at each event there are dozens of volunteer SCCA members acting as motorsports artisans crafting the experience to make sure races run smoothly and safely. The volunteer SCCA members who operate in technical inspection are crucial to the successful organization and execution of events – making them just as much a part of the SCCA as those who strap into the cars.
Other than the drivers and crew, these SCCA members are the most hands on with the cars. "Tech" inspectors know and understand cars and rules, particularly when it comes to safety.
Before the races, inspectors check over cars and driver gear making sure each are ready for a weekend of fast action. After incidents they inspect cars to see what needs to be repaired, and after each race they help inspect top finishing cars for any potential rule violations in case of a protest.
Stop by the Tech Trailer and say thanks to these volunteers that work long hours to make racing possible.

The Cal Club
Grid Team
While much of the attention at an SCCA/Cal Club Road Race may be on the colorful, curb-hopping, tire-smoking action on the racetrack, at each event there are dozens of volunteer SCCA members acting as motorsports artisans crafting the experience to make sure races run smoothly and safely.
The Volunteer SCCA/Cal Club Grid team wants you to imagine what would happen if excitable racers were allowed to just decide amongst themselves how they’d enter a course for qualifying or racing. It’s safe to say that would lead to chaotic scenes at the beginning of many on-track sessions. For this reason, our volunteer grid workers are an incredibly valuable and essential squad for race weekends. Not only do they put cars in correct order, but they are also checking safety gear, window nets, looking for tools that might have been left accidentally in the car, making sure hoods are fastened and giving the driver a thumbs up and words of encouragement before they go out on track.
Working in the cold or heat of the day, with only a few minutes to sit and get some water these ladies and gentlemen volunteer because they enjoy racing just as much as you. Give them a big smile and thumbs up, but the best thing you can do for them is to show up early to grid, ready to go!
