Nov. 2025

It's Election Time!

Hey everyone, I know that we are overwhelmed with all the political commercials going on now and unfortunately, I am going to add to it! But these folks are not politicians, they are good, hard working, hard racing Cal Club members that want to volunteer their time to help the club and make the right decisions. The Cal Club Board of Governors has 5 candidates running for 4 seats! Below you will find the write ups for each of our candidates written in their own words and not edited.

In a few days you will receive a ballot. As a Cal Club or Associate member in good standing you are asked to vote for 4 or less folks who you think will lead Cal Club into the future. These folks if elected will serve on the board from 2025 -2026.

Johnnie Crean

 Fellow Cal Club members

I would be honored if chosen to serve you as a Board of Governors member.

I’ve been a Cal Club member since 1971! During the past 5 decades plus I’ve driven FF, B sports racing, FC, FA, super vee, and P1. Additionally, I’ve served briefly as a Steward, a SOM, Race Chairman, and an operating steward. I was once briefly on Board of Governors, and RE.

I’m retired, and plan to do most or all the 2025 Cal Club events. I’d like the opportunity to serve, as I’m grateful for my experience at Cal Club, and it would be personally satisfactory to return by service to the Club which has so added to my life.

At 75 years old, looking back, it’s clear it’s been my fellow Cal Club members who have made my experience so gratifying. I’m confident with my time and effort, my operational and business and financial experience can assist the Board of Governors in further advancing our beloved Cal Club to a vibrant and healthy future.

Jon French

Hi CalClub!

My name is Jon French, and I am running for the Board of Governors for the Club.

I have been an SCCA/CalClub member for almost twenty-five years. I spent twenty of those years racing a Spec Racer Ford, and also previously served three terms on the BoG.

I am no longer actively racing but have recently joined the fabulous Race Administration team at Cal Club and will be the Pace Car driver starting in January 2025.

My enthusiasm for the Club has been renewed and I want to give back after spending so many years as a racer. I am a Project Manager by profession, and I would like to lend my enthusiasm and skills to the Club to keep us moving forward.

I humbly ask for your vote for the Board of Governors for CalClub.

Thank you.

Jon

Tom Hope

Cal Club and SCCA Teammates, this is Tom Hope writing to express my strong interest in continuing forward as a Member of the Cal Club Board of Directors. As a current Cal Club Board Member, I am passionate about it's mission to provide high-quality racing events, and to complete the Circuit at Buttonwillow, progressing into a future of success and opportunities.

Since joining the Cal Club Board in 2021, I have had the opportunity to be Treasurer, and currently am one of the Cal Club representatives on the Cal Club Race Board. I’d like to think that my participation with Cal Club Race has helped push forward the objective of finishing the Circuit, and prioritizing Cal Club’s needs with the new track. My passion is the success of Cal Club, and The Circuit is critical to that outcome.

My existing time on the Cal Club Board has allowed me to be closer aligned with the Volunteer Worker Corps, and believe my support of their needs, now and in the future, will continue to keep Cal Club Workers at the top of the list of Race Workers throughout the Country.

My Professional Business background, specializing in Logistics, has been a great match with the current needs within Cal Club. My road racing career, as a Driver (and Winner) at the Club level through Pro level and owner of a successful Prep-Shop gives me a great perspective to the Racers needs, desires, and change-impacts. I really do want Cal Club events to be the must-be-at destination for SCCA Club Racers.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to the opportunity to represent you, and the opportunity to discuss further issues and direction to keep Cal Club as the Place to Race.

Best regards,

Tom Hope

Joe Moran

Dear Cal Club members,

My name is Joe Moran and I am running for a seat on the Cal Club board. I live in Laguna Hills with my wife Karen. I also have three daughters who live locally. I started racing with Cal Club in 1980 with a G production spitfire which I still feel is the fastest car on the planet. I have participated in 10 runoffs at 4 different tracks, and I have been lucky enough to race at most of the tracks in the United States. I feel that Cal Club is the best region in the country to enjoy our sport of road racing.

In life you cannot always take without giving back. In 2005 I was encouraged to join the board by some fellow racers. The club was going through some tough times managing our racetrack. My friends thought I had the experience to help guide the club through these troubling times. I was elected to the board and became the treasurer for the club. We had a great team of individuals on the board at that time and we solved a lot of problems for the club. During my tenure we went through three Office Managers. Due to this, I spent a lot of time writing checks and paying bills. The best part about these actions was I learned how Cal Club made or lost money first hand.

So I really feel that I can make a difference if I am elected to the board.

I believe that Cal Club is once again facing tough times again with the financial struggles that the racetrack is experiencing. There is no magic bullets to resolving financial issues. What you need is teamwork, smart decisions and a little bit of luck and you can solve anything.

If I am elected, I promise you I will keep Cal Club number one and help the track get through their financial issues.

Take Care, Joe Moran

Hello members. Why I want to be on the board. I have some business skills that I think could help the board as we go forward, plus I want to really see CAL CLUB connect with the next generation of drivers, crew members and course workers.

I first joined Cal Club back in 1977. I remember going to tech on a week day because there were 300-400 entries that needed to be inspected. I remember all club volunteers who made the regional and national races smooth and safe. WE have some of those same qualities in todays workers. I remember the honor it was for those workers to get to work the LONG beach events as a crown jewel of the club. My goal is to help steer young people towards auto racing and CAL CLUB., one new person at a time, plus help reward those existing workers who make this all possible.
