Golden Eagles soccer teams win CCAA championship titles

Congratulations to the Cal State LA men’s and women’s soccer teams for winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championships! The men’s soccer team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1 to earn the tournament crown for the second consecutive season. The reigning NCAA Division II national champions saw their playoff run come to a stunning end this past Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament, losing 2-1 to Northwest Nazarene. The women’s soccer team came out victorious over Sonoma State, 1-0, to earn its first CCAA tournament title since 2014. The Golden Eagles’ magnificent 2022 season came to an end last Thursday in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 loss to Concordia.

Women’s volleyball heads to the NCAA playoffs

The Cal State LA women’s volleyball team is headed to Washington for the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Championship Tournament. The No. 3 seed Golden Eagles—the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season champions—will face conference foe Sonoma State, the No. 6 seed, in a first-round match on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. at Western Washington’s Carver Arena. Watch the game live online.

University Reports fall edition is featured online

The fall edition of University Reports is available online. Browse through the publication that showcases professional activities and published works, as well as awards received by our faculty and staff. Submit your information to the Office of Communications and Public Affairs for inclusion in the next issue.

Free community flu shot clinic on Nov. 17

Cal State LA will host a free flu shot clinic on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Main Walkway in front of the Student Health Center. The clinic is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Parent or guardian consent is required for those under 18 years old. Appointments are recommended but not required. The clinic is sponsored by QueensCare Health Centers and Cal State LA.

The Luckman presents a musical performance by CocoRosie

CocoRosie, featuring sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady, will perform at the Luckman Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. Definition eludes these two artists as CocoRosie blends and manipulates what critics have described as indie, hip-hop, pop, blues, opera, and electronic music. WellBeingU In the Garden Series event on Nov. 30

Cal State LA's WellBeingU In the Garden Series will offer an “Art & Alternative” workshop on Nov. 30 at 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Janice Cordova Garden of Well-Being. Come create a piece of art with guided instruction while enjoying the serenity of the garden and listening to alternative music. Please register in advance to attend the garden series.

Silverman Fine Arts Gallery to display senior projects

The Art Department is presenting a Senior Projects Exhibition, from Dec. 5 through Dec. 12 at the Universitys Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery in the Fine Arts building. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from noon to 5 p.m. For details, call 323-343-4040.

Cal State LA receives two Best of CASE District VII Awards

Cal State LA won two awards in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VII Awards of Excellence. The University’s Communications and Public Affairs team received the Best of CASE District VII Awards in the videos: student audience category for the short video, “Cal State LA: Ranked #1 for Upward Mobility,” and in the writing: profile category for an article on Holocaust survivor and Cal State LA alumnus Sigmund Burke.

Registration for winter classes is still open

Classes during Winter Session take place from Jan. 3 to 21, 2023. Registration has been opened, and the schedule of classes is listed online. Winter Session is administered through Cal State LA's College of Professional and Global Education. For details, please email the Winter Session office or call 323-343-4915.

Counseling and psychological services available 

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides confidential and non-judgmental help with students’ personal growth and psychological wellness.
