Cal State LA Preview Day 2024 in the University Gym.

Cal State LA Preview Day invites admitted students to visit campus

Cal State LA will host its Preview Day on Saturday, March 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., to welcome all the high school seniors and transfer students who are provisionally admitted to Cal State LA for fall 2025. These prospective students and their families have been invited to visit the Cal State LA campus and meet University representatives from various colleges, student services departments, and student organizations. 

Donate to the Hygiene Kits and Non-Perishable Food Drive

Support families in our community by donating to the Hygiene Kits and Non-Perishable Food Drive, a collaboration between Cal State LA and Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, a nonprofit organization. Donations of hygiene kits and non-perishable food items are being accepted. Drop off donations from Monday, March 17, to Wednesday, April 30, at the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good, located on the lower level of the Career Center building. Cal State LA to host 2025 Mesoamerican Symposium

The Art History Society of Cal State LA to host the 2025 Mesoamerican Symposium on Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the University-Student Union Theatre. This year’s theme is “At the Crossroads of Civilizations: The Cultures of West Mexico Through Time.” The event will celebrate and explore the rich cultural heritage of West Mexico, honoring the invaluable contributions of Dr. John M.D. Pohl and Dr. Manuel Aguilar-Moreno to the field of Mesoamerica. Please register online to attend the symposium.

Join the Cal State LA Gives Back! day of service

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to volunteer and participate in a day of community service at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in the City of Industry. The Cal State LA Gives Back! event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Transportation is provided. This service project is organized by the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good. Space is limited, so sign up online before April 11. Luckman Gallery features an exhibit on ‘(in)visible flows: water and light streams in Poaceae family’

The Luckman Gallery is hosting an exhibition, (in)visible flows: water and light streams in Poaceae family, that features the art and science behind more-than-human systems. This exhibit is curated by Antía Iglesias and Marion Boisseaux. The exhibit will be on display from April 10 to June 7, 2025. The opening reception will be on Thursday, April 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. The artist talk is scheduled for Friday, April 11, at 3 p.m. Visit the Luckman Gallery’s webpage for more information.

Earth Day Celebration at Cal State LA on April 22

Join the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good on Tuesday, April 22, as Cal State LA celebrates Earth Day with the theme of “City & Soil.” The Golden Eagle community is invited to participate in a Building for Community project for the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity in order to construct wall systems for new homes in our surrounding community. Faculty, staff, and students are also welcome to sign up for the Greenhouse Tours and Small Space Gardening Demonstration. Please register online by April 11. Dreamers Resource Center offers UndocuAlly training

The Erika J. Glazer Family Dreamers Resource Center is offering a virtual training workshop that will prepare faculty and staff to be allies for undocumented students. Register online for the training on Wednesday, April 16, from 3 to 4 p.m. To sign up, complete the UndocuAlly training registration form.

Fair features volunteer, internship opportunities for students

The Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good will host a Volunteer Internship Fair on Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the Main Walkway. The fair will be held between the Career Center and the Biological Sciences building. Please encourage your students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about various volunteer and internship opportunities offered through community-based organizations.

Summer Session information available online

This year, Summer Session classes are offered through three convenient options. There will be a ten-week session (May 27-Aug. 9) and two five-week sessions (May 27-June 30 and July 7-Aug. 9). Registration opens on Tuesday, April 1. The registration and tuition information is available online.

University Reports is accepting entries from faculty, staff

The Office of Strategic Communications is accepting submissions for the next edition of University Reports. The web publication showcases professional activities and publications, as well as the awards received by our faculty and staff. Submit your information to the Office of Strategic Communications at paffairs@calstatela.edu for inclusion in the next issue.

Counseling services available for campus community

Employees may find counseling assistance through the Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters, by calling 1-800-367-7474 or visiting the LifeMatters website. Cal State LA’s company password is GOEAGLES. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides services to students throughout the summer. Counselors will be available to address issues such as anxiety management, emotional wellness, mindfulness, and more. For details, call 323-343-3314 or visit the CAPS website.
