Fall Tips for Isleton Residents | | |
Clear Leaves & Debris
Keep leaves, branches, and debris out of storm drains to reduce flood risk during fall rains. Rake them into your green waste cart for proper composting.
Check Flood Preparedness
Living near the Delta means fall is the time to check your flood supplies: sandbags, emergency kits, and sump pumps should be ready before heavy winter rains arrive.
Yard & Garden Care
Prune back trees and shrubs, and plant fall vegetables like kale, lettuce, or garlic. Use compost or mulch to protect soil as the weather cools.
Safe Driving in Fog
Delta mornings often bring heavy fog in the fall. Slow down, use low-beam headlights, and give yourself extra time for commutes.
Pumpkin & Holiday Waste
After Halloween, pumpkins can go into your green waste cart instead of the trash. The same goes for Thanksgiving food scraps — they can be composted too!
Check Heating & Fire Safety
Cooler nights mean more heater use. Replace filters, check smoke alarms, and clean chimneys if you have a fireplace or wood stove.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the Isleton Community Clean Up on Saturday, June 14th. Together, residents helped keep our community clean by bringing in waste and disposing of it responsibly.
Events like this show the power of neighbors working together to care for the place we all call home. Cal-Waste is proud to partner with the City of Isleton to make this clean-up possible and appreciates everyone who took the time to join in.
| Are You Recycling Hazardous Waste? | | |
Leesa takes you onto the tipping floor of our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where all of Isleton’s recycling is dropped off. Lately, we’ve been finding a dangerous trend: batteries in recycling carts.
Here’s why it’s a big problem:
- Batteries are heavy and sift to the bottom of the pile.
- When our front loader crushes them, they spark and start fires in the recycling.
- Even small batteries can ignite a fire inside our trucks when the compaction paddle breaks them open.
Please handle batteries and other hazardous waste properly by taking them to a Household Hazardous Waste facility.
| |
Simple Battery Storage Tips at Home
- Store used batteries in a sturdy box or plastic container.
- Cover the ends of batteries with tape to prevent sparks.
- Keep the container in a cool, dry place until drop-off.

| | Why Hoses And Wires Can't Go In Your Recycling Cart | | |
Not everything belongs in your recycling cart. Some items can actually cause serious damage. Garden hoses, extension cords, and wires wrap around recycling equipment, break machinery, and can even snap back to shatter truck windshields. This puts our drivers at risk.
Watch this short video to see why it is so important to keep hoses, cords, and wires out of your recycling cart. Please remember to place these items in the trash, not in recycling.
By keeping hazardous items out of your recycling cart, you help protect our drivers, keep equipment running safely, and support a stronger recycling program for the Isleton community.
