NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

We had such a wonderful time at National Night Out with the Woodbridge community! It was great connecting with so many of you, answering your questions about organic waste, proper recycling, and the services we provide. We truly value these opportunities to engage with our community and look forward to supporting you at future events.

A big thank you to Priscilla and her husband who put on this wonderful event each year!

Are You Recycling Hazardous Waste?

Leesa takes you onto the tipping floor of our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where all of Woodbridge’s recycling is dropped off. Lately, we’ve been finding a dangerous trend: batteries in recycling carts.

Here’s why it’s a big problem:

  • Batteries are heavy and sift to the bottom of the pile.
  • When our front loader crushes them, they spark and start fires in the recycling.
  • Even small batteries can ignite a fire inside our trucks when the compaction paddle breaks them open.

Please handle batteries and other hazardous waste properly by taking them to a Household Hazardous Waste facility.

Simple Battery Storage Tips at Home

  • Store used batteries in a sturdy box or plastic container.
  • Cover the ends of batteries with tape to prevent sparks.
  • Keep the container in a cool, dry place until drop-off.

Where to Safely Dispose of Hazardous Waste

For Woodbridge residents, household hazardous waste (HHW) can be taken to the:

San Joaquin County Household Hazardous Waste Consolidation Facility

📍 7850 R.A. Bridgeford Street, Stockton, CA 95206

📞 (209) 468-3066

To learn more about accepted items and hours of operation, visit:

By keeping hazardous items out of your recycling cart and taking them to the proper facility, you’re helping keep our drivers safe, protecting equipment, and supporting a stronger recycling program for the Woodbridge community.

SEASONAL TIPS FOR FALL SEASON

As the seasons change, a little preparation goes a long way in keeping your home and neighborhood safe, clean, and sustainable. Here are a few quick tips for fall in Woodbridge:

  • Keep leaves out of storm drains: Rake fallen leaves and place them in your green waste cart. This helps prevent flooding and keeps our waterways clean.

  • Pumpkin disposal: After Halloween, pumpkins go into your organics/green waste cart, not the trash. They make great compost!

  • Bundle up yard clippings: Trimmed branches or clippings should be cut to fit inside your green waste cart with the lid closed.

  • Shorter days mean darker evenings: Make sure carts are visible and placed out by 5:00 AM on collection day to help our drivers stay safe.

  • Holiday prep: Start thinking ahead for Thanksgiving and holiday gatherings. Reduce waste by recycling boxes, cans, and bottles, and use your green waste cart for food scraps.

A little seasonal care helps keep our community safe, our streets clear, and our planet healthy!

Team Spotlight

Meet Our Education Team

Nina, Leesa, and Adolfo

From Stockton to Sacramento to Arnold, our Education Team is on the road inspiring the next generation to care for the planet. By visiting schools across the region, they introduce students to science, math, social studies, and technology through the lens of waste reduction. Their lessons not only teach kids about recycling and food waste, but also encourage critical thinking and real-world problem solving.

From engaging assemblies on recycling and food waste to hands-on learning activities, our Education Team does it all. They are proud to be active in the Woodbridge community, helping students understand the importance of giving back to the planet and building sustainable habits that will last a lifetime.

Why Hoses and Wires Can't Go in Your Recycling Cart

Not everything belongs in your recycling cart. Some items can actually cause serious damage. Garden hoses, extension cords, and wires wrap around recycling equipment, break machinery, and can even snap back to shatter truck windshields. This puts our drivers at risk.

Watch this short video to see why it is so important to keep hoses, cords, and wires out of your recycling cart. Please place these items in the trash or in your Handy Hauler.

If you have bigger projects, yard cleanups, or extra household waste, renting a Handy Hauler is the perfect solution. Our large, easy-to-use bins give you the space you need to safely dispose of bulky or non-recyclable items. Renting is simple, affordable, and helps keep your community and our equipment safe.
