Coastal Commission Environmental Justice and LCP Survey
The California Coastal Commission is seeking public input on how to integrate environmental justice considerations into Local Coastal Programs, which are planning documents that guide allowable development along the coast. In 2019, the Commission adopted its environmental justice policy to provide guidance for the agency and the public on how the Commission will address environmental justice. According to today’s announcement, the Commission is committed to working with local governments in coastal cities and counties to address environmental justice and equity in their local land use plans. Answers to this short survey will help the Commission understand what information and guidance the Commission should develop to support local governments to bring greater environmental justice and equity to coastal zone communities. CalCoast Congratulates Members Ranked Among Top Beach Towns In U.S.
A new report published recently by online media outlet Stacker ranked the top 50 coastal communities in the U.S. Using six categories, the report identifies the range of pros that beach living can offer, including affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. Two states ranked the highest in the report: California and Florida. Four CalCoast members were ranked among the top ten beach towns: Newport Beach (4), Santa Monica (5), Carlsbad (8), Encinitas (10). Stacker ranked other CalCoast members as follows: Santa Barbara (11), Laguna Beach (14), San Clemente (16), Hermosa Beach (18), Seal Beach (19), Santa Cruz (22), Coronado (26), Dana Point (28), and Manhattan Beach (39).
