The California Complete Count - Census 2020 Office is committed to engaging its many partners, from counties to Tribal Governments, education institutions, community-based organizations, and more, through events, webinars, and consultations. Regional meetings will be conducted from June - September 2019 to continue building regional capacity for outreach. A morning session will bring together community leaders and regional state contractors to continue collaborating on reaching California's hard-to-count populations to achieve a complete count. An afternoon workshop for state contractors will facilitate the development of effective and efficient implementation plans. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a settlement with DeMenno-Kerdoon and D/K Environmental for improperly managing hazardous waste at the World Oil Recycling facility in Compton, California, and the World Oil Terminals in Vernon, California. Under the agreement, the companies will spend $167,967 on an environmental project to reduce air pollution in local classrooms and pay a $39,092 penalty. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt today announced from Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge a proposal for new or expanded hunting and fishing opportunities at 74 national wildlife refuges and 15 national fish hatcheries managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) across more than 1.4 million acres. The Service will seek comments from the public on the proposed rule for 45 days. The notice will be available at http://www.regulations.gov , Docket Number: FWS-HQ-NWRS-2019-0040. The Service intends to finalize the proposed changes in time for the upcoming 2019-2020 hunting seasons. An interim copy of the proposed rule is now available .

The Trump Administration released, " A Federal Strategy to Ensure a Reliable Supply of Critical Minerals," to make America's economy and defense more secure. The strategy directs the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) to locate domestic supplies of those minerals, ensure access to information necessary for the study and production of minerals, and expedite permitting for minerals projects. Currently, the U.S. relies on other countries completely for many minerals. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has embarked on a new nationwide program of surface and subsurface mapping. Also, alternatives, such as recycling, processing mine waste, extraction from seawater, or even filtering them from energy byproducts, could prove valuable sources for critical minerals. USGS will assist other Federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, Department of Agriculture and DOI bureaus like the BLM and BOEM, with evaluating these unconventional methods for bolstering the traditional supplies of critical minerals.
