CalOptima is excited about a new opportunity offered by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) under its CalAIM proposal. Specifically, CalOptima may ask DHCS for approval to offer selected In Lieu of Services (ILOS) as alternatives to Medi-Cal covered benefits. ILOS can be integrated with care management for high- risk members and would allow CalOptima to address social determinants of health in a way that is cost-effective and consistent with a whole-person care approach.

In 1986, Secretary of Defense Casper W. Weinberger designated April as the Month of the Military Child to honor and recognize the sacrifices and challenges military children face. Oftentimes, these children endure long separations from their parents due to deployments, experience loneliness and frustration due to multiple relocations, other uncertainties and much more. On April 20, 2021, CalOptima hosted a virtual presentation "Community Resources to Support Military Families and Veterans."
