InfoSeries: A Local and National Snapshot on Homelessness

Orange County United Way will present on the United to End Homelessness℠ initiative and attendees will learn about solutions to address homelessness, commonly held myths about the homeless population and CalAIM and the services that support members experiencing homelessness.

OCAPICA Founder Receives Leadership in Advocacy Award
|
|
|
|
Founder and Executive Director of the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA), Mary Anne Foo received the Association for Community Affiliated Plans’ Leadership in Advocacy Award after CalOptima nominated her for her impactful work through OCAPICA and dedication to those less fortunate.
OCAPICA advocates on a wide range of issues around the needs of Asian American, Pacific Islander (AAPI) and other underserved communities. Most recently, OCAPICA received multiple grants to respond to the mental health needs of the AAPI community in collaboration with local school districts, CalOptima and other organizations.

Medi-Cal Postpartum Care Extension for Maternal Mental Health
|
|
|
|
New and expecting mothers enrolled in CalOptima who are experiencing a maternal mental health challenge, such as pregnancy or postpartum-related depression or anxiety, can have their coverage extended for the 12-month postpartum period in order to receive needed care. First 5 OC and the Orange County Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (OC PMAD) Collaborative shared a brief tutorial for Medi-Cal-contracted perinatal providers and staff on how to complete and submit the MC-61 form, so that clients may receive extended coverage and access care as soon as possible.

CalOptima Grants $1M to Increase Access at Be Well OC
|
|
|
|
To increase access to behavioral health services for its members, CalOptima has provided Be Well OC with a $1 million grant. The funding will:
- Support a specialized team to facilitate admissions to the Be Well Orange Campus
- Provide additional staff and increased coverage
- Improve the intake and coordination process with training, a phone system upgrade and more
Be Well has served approximately 2,400 CalOptima members since opening in January 2021, and CalOptima's grant will ensure members continue to have timely access to services, assessment and placement into care.

CalOptima COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Kids and the Community
|
|
|
|
Children ages 5–11 accompanied by a parent/guardian and unvaccinated community members of all ages are invited to the upcoming CalOptima clinics from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on:
- 2nd Saturday of March and April (3/12 and 4/9) — Building 95 (MPR 100) 15751 Gothard St, Huntington Beach
- 3rd Saturday of March and April (3/19 and 4/16) — St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church, 1450 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim
- 4th Saturday of March and April (3/26 and 4/23) — County of Orange Social Services Agency Central Regional Office, 2020 W. Walnut St., Santa Ana
CalOptima will be on-site to check CalOptima Medi-Cal eligibility, give $25 Member Health Rewards to eligible members and host a resource table. The County of Orange Social Services Agency will be on-site to provide CalFresh and Medi-Cal enrollment.

California Updates Masking Guidance
|
|
|
|
As of February 16, universal masking is only required in certain settings. Unvaccinated persons will be required to continue masking in all indoor public settings, while fully vaccinated individuals are recommended to continue indoor masking.
As part of the State’s updated masking guidance, masks will continue to be required for all individuals in the following indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status:
- On public transit (examples: airplanes, ships, ferries, trains, subways, buses, taxis, and ride-shares) and in transportation hubs (examples: airport, bus terminal, marina, train station, seaport or other port, subway station, or any other area that provides transportation)
- Emergency shelters and cooling and heating centers
- Healthcare settings
- State and local correctional facilities and detention centers
- Homeless shelters
- Long term care settings
- Adult and senior care facilities
- Indoors at K-12 schools and childcare settings

The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) will be hosting a new talk show on YouTube, “Your Health Matters OC”. The show will feature regular guests, including healthcare professionals at the HCA and in the community to discuss various health topics that impact the Orange County community. Members of the public and media are invited to view the webcast as well as submit questions in advance and during the show by emailing yourhealthmatters@ochca.com. The Youth Ride Free program allows youth ages 6-18 to ride OC Bus for free to school, sports, work and other activities. The program started in September 2021 and was extended by the OCTA Board of Directors on February 14, 2022. The current pass expires on February 28, 2022. Those wtih an existing yellow pass should hold onto it. OC Bus drivers will continue to accept the existing Youth Ride Free passes until March 31, to allow time for youth to receive their new extended passes.

How to Contact CalOptima During the COVID-19 Pandemic

CalOptima Customer Service remains ready to respond to member needs as we adhere to guidelines to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. Our building is closed to visitors. Members can call Customer Service from the safety of their home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have staff who speak their language. Members can also visit www.caloptima.org and access their member portal.
