CalFresh Enrollment Events and Resource Fair for the Community
|
More than 2,500 community members attended CalOptima’s CalFresh Enrollment Event and Resource Fair this past weekend at Ponderosa Park in Anaheim.
A family of four can get up to $835/month to buy healthy food with CalFresh, and CalOptima members and the community can enroll for CalFresh on-site at upcoming events. You can also get connected with local community resources, receive free food and diapers, and enjoy fun activities for all ages.

CalOptima Virtual Resource Fair: Resources to Address Food Insecurity

CalOptima invites health care partners, community stakeholders and CalOptima employees to attend a three-part Virtual Resource Fair throughout the month of June focusing on “ Resources to Address Food Insecurity in Orange County.” Each session will highlight a different category and registration is required for each session.

CalOptima Welcomes Executive Director of Medi-Cal/CalAIM
|
CalOptima welcomes Kelly Bruno-Nelson as the agency’s Executive Director of Medi-Cal/CalAIM, who recently joined CEO Michael Hunn for a video introduction to employees.
Kelly has more than 25 years of experience serving vulnerable populations in Southern California. Most recently, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of National Health Foundation, and prior to this position, she served as Vice President of ONEgeneration. In her role at CalOptima, she will oversee and further develop the agency’s Medi-Cal plan through the resources and Community Supports offered by CalAIM.

CMO Gives Commencement Address
|
CalOptima Chief Medical Officer Richard Pitts, D.O., Ph.D., gave the Commencement address to the Class of 2022 at his alma mater, Des Moines University, and received an honorary doctorate.
“This is an incredible sight from where I’m standing,” said Dr. Pitts, to the audience of faculty and graduates, and their families and friends. “The future of health care is right here in front of me.”

CIO Discusses Digital Evolution of Health Care
|
CalOptima Chief Information Officer, Wael Younan published an article in CXOTech Magazine providing his insights into the evolution of health care through digital technology.
“The real question is: How can we avoid health issues in the first place and handle preventive care in a more meaningful way,” writes Younan in view of the health care system's reactive approach to treating patients. “A combination of workflow optimizations, process automation, AI/ML modeling and predictive analysis could just be the answer.”

The Orange County Health Care Agency makes it easy for individuals to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Click here to find an appointment location and time.
Vaccinations are also available for anyone who is homebound, and transportation services are available for anyone who needs a ride to a vaccination site. If you need help scheduling a vaccination appointment, call the OC COVID-19 Hotline at 714-834-2000.

CDC Expands Eligibility for COVID-19 Booster Shots
|
|
|
|
The CDC has strengthened its recommendations and eligibility criteria for COVID-19 boosters. The CDC now recommends that children ages 5 through 11 years receive a booster shot five months after their initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination series. Click here for the full news release.

Join Planned Parenthood on Wednesday, June 15, from 3–4 p.m. to learn all about gender, including identity, orientation and expression, as well as what it means to be gender inclusive. Starting July 1, a new California law will go into effect extending start times in an effort to prevent sleep deprivation. This would require the school day for middle schools to begin no earlier than 8 a.m. and for high schools to begin no earlier than 8:30 a.m. The law also includes schools operated as charter schools.

CalOptima Customer Service remains ready to respond to member needs as we adhere to guidelines to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. Our building is closed to visitors. Members can call Customer Service from the safety of their home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have staff who speak their language. Members can also visit www.caloptima.org and access their member portal.
