CalOptima and the County of Orange Partner to Host COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic and Back-to-School Resource Fair to Support Children 12 and Over and Their Families
|
To help prepare children and families as they go back-to-school and boost access to COVID-19 vaccines, CalOptima and County of Orange agencies are partnering to hold a vaccine clinic and back-to-school resource fair with no-cost backpack and school supplies giveaways (while supplies last). The event is Saturday, August 28, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at CalOptima’s office located at 505 City Parkway West, Orange, 92868. Minors ages 12 to 17 are only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, need to be accompanied by their parent or guardian and must bring proof of their age. CalOptima Medi-Cal members can receive a $25 gift card Member Health Reward per vaccine dose.
Community partners will be on site to share resources for food, mental health and early education, including County of Orange Social Services Agency for CalFresh and Medi-Cal enrollment, 211OC and OC Head Start.
CalOptima has hosted COVID-19 vaccine clinics throughout the summer. To schedule a vaccine appointment for the event on August 28, call the OC COVID-19 Hotline at 1-714-834-2000 or go to www.othena.com and select the CalOptima vaccination site to register.
To schedule a vaccine appointment for an individual on the autism spectrum or other disability, call Dr. Chelsea O’Haire at 949-267-0444 at the Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Back-To-School Vaccination Event
|
CalOptima is working with community partners to host mobile back-to-school vaccination events for students and their families. All students, including CalOptima members, can schedule an appointment to catch up on vaccinations before the school year begins and/or as they return to in-person instruction. Routine and COVID-19 vaccines will be available.

County of Orange Health Officer Issues Strong Vaccination Recommendation for Health Care Workers
|
The County of Orange Health Officer issued a revised health order on August 20, 2021, regarding COVID-19 vaccination requirements and status verification, testing and face coverings, incorporating recent orders and guidance by the California State Public Health Officer and the California Department of Public Health. It includes a strong recommendation for all emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and home health care providers (including In-
Home Supportive Services workers) to be fully vaccinated by September 30, 2021. Unvaccinated individuals must test twice weekly for COVID-19 until they are fully vaccinated.

Federal Unemployment Benefits Set to Expire Under CARES Act
|
Federal unemployment benefit programs under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act end on September 4. Benefits will no longer be paid for the following types of claims:
- Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
- Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
- Pandemic Additional Compensation (PAC)
- Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)
The federal government does not allow benefit payments to be made for weeks of unemployment after these programs end, even if there are balances left on claims. Certification weeks eligible for payment before the end date of these programs will be processed. This includes weeks eligible for conditional payments. People will be notified about what to expect based on their claim type.

County of Orange Social Services Agency Reopens Adult Services Office
|
The County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) announced the reopening of the Adult Services Office on Warner in Santa Ana. It has staff for both SSA In-Home Supportive Services and Adult Protective Services as well as Public Authority offices. Voting and Drop Box Locations
|
In light of COVID-19, voting and elections will be different for the September 14 California Gubernatorial Recall Election. Ballot drop boxes are a great way to deliver ballots without going into a Vote Center. There will be 116 secure ballot drop boxes available until 8 p.m. on Election Day, which is September 14. CalOptima CEO Richard Sanchez Participates in Assembly Select Committee on Homelessness and Mental Health Services in Orange County
|
On Friday, August 20, CalOptima CEO Richard Sanchez and other leaders joined Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva for a virtual hearing on addressing homelessness and mental health in Orange County.
“We have to start thinking big if we really want to solve this problem,” said Mr. Sanchez from CalOptima’s new recording and filming studio. Mr. Sanchez discussed different facets of the homelessness issue as well as efforts to address it, such as CalOptima’s Homeless Health Initiative and the California Department of Health Care Services’ California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal initiative.

CalOptima Customer Service remains ready to respond to member needs, as we adhere to guidelines to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. Our building is closed to visitors. Members can call Customer Service from the safety of their home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have staff who speak their language.
