CalOptima Health released the agency’s 2023 Report to the Community, showcasing accomplishments in 2022, previewing plans for new programs and initiatives in 2023, and spotlighting stories of our members, providers and community partners.
“CalOptima Health’s 2023 Report to the Community looks back on a busy 2022 and forward to a bright future,” said CalOptima Health Chief Executive Officer Michael Hunn and Chief Medical Officer Richard Pitts, D.O., Ph.D., in a joint letter introducing the report. “Perhaps you noticed our vibrant redesigned logo, experienced the energy of participating in our community events or helped a member access an impactful new benefit. A lot changed in 2022, and it was purposeful and positive.”

Attend a four-part virtual resource fair throughout the month of January focusing on “Resources to Support Housing in Orange County.” Each session will highlight one of the following categories: youth, families, pregnant women and adults. The fair will help inform and educate health care partners, community stakeholders and CalOptima Health employees about services and programs available to better serve community members experiencing housing insecurity. A virtual InfoSeries on A Local and National Snapshot on Homelessness for Older Adults will take place on Wednesday, January 18, from 1:30– 3 p.m. The event is designed to provide an update on trends in homelessness for older adults in Orange County and across the country, potential causes of homelessness and the impact on older adults in our community and new CalAIM Community Supports. CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn joined other California leaders for the swearing-in of the new California State Legislature on Monday, December 5. “It was an honor to share the day with our Orange County delegation, and we look forward to a productive year working with them to meet the needs of our members,” Hunn said.

Employees Donate Toys for Orange County Children |

CalOptima Health employees participated in a holiday drive organized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove to donate toys and other gifts for Orange County children. Employees donated more than 150 gifts for elementary school-aged children ages 5–12, making the holidays brighter for our community’s children.

The Orange County Health Care Agency makes it easy for individuals to get a COVID-19 vaccine. There are several ways to find an appointment.
Vaccinations are also available for anyone who is homebound, and transportation services are available for those who need a ride to a vaccination site. If you need help scheduling a vaccination appointment, call the OC COVID-19 Hotline at 714-834-2000.

Community members can order free rapid antigen COVID-19 tests from the United States Postal Service. Help slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community by testing before and 3–5 days after attending in-person events or gatherings. Orange County Moves From “Medium” to “High” COVID-19 Community Level on CDC Metrics | | |
Orange County has moved to the High COVID-19 Community Level, according to the latest Community Level metrics released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per theOrange County Health Care Agency (HCA). The CDC determines COVID-19 Community Levels based on the number of local COVID-19 cases, COVID-19 hospital admissions, and COVID-19 hospital inpatient occupancy in the prior week. In the past week, the rise of new COVID-19 hospital admissions transitioned Orange County from medium to high COVID-19 community levels. | |

Research Update for National Alzheimer's Awareness Month | | |
Join the Alzheimer’s Association on January 11 from 3–4 p.m. for a virtual update on CalAIM Community Supports that are available to eligible Medi-Cal members. These services are designed to improve the quality of life and health outcomes of members by addressing the social drivers of health and housing and food insecurity, independence, and other supportive needs of members. Orange County Selected to Participate in CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Survey |
Orange County is one of 15 counties nationwide selected to be part of the CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The survey will be administered from January 5 through March 13, 2023 at the CDC/NHANES’ Mobile Examination Center. NHANES monitors the health and nutrition status of adults and children across the United States. It combines interviews and physical examinations to provide a complete picture of the current health of the U.S.
Participation in NHANES is by invitation only, and selected community members received information in the mail. Please participate if you are invited, as your contribution will provide crucial health data for the country. For more information, visit the CDC website or call 855-958-0631.

Mental Health Services Act Community Planning Meeting | Join the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Innovation Team for a virtual discussion on the Workforce development and behavioral health services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community on January 18 from 1–2:30 p.m. $20 Gift Cards will be provided to behavioral health clients/consumers and family members who attend and participate in the meeting. Join the National Alliances on Mental Illness (NAMI) to learn how to support a child’s mental health with NAMI Basics. Basics is a no-cost, six-week education program for parents and family of children and teens who are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition or diagnosis to learn the facts about mental health conditions. Classes will take place every Thursday evening from 7–9 p.m. and will start January 12. | | |
OCTA Long Range Transportation Roundtable | | |
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is hosting a live and interactive Telephone Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, January 19 at 5:30 p.m., offering an opportunity for community members to learn more about the draft LRTP and share thoughts about the future of transportation in Orange County. The LRTP redefines its vision for the County to address future mobility needs in the region and considers changing revenues, demographics, and trends. | |

How to Contact CalOptima Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic | CalOptima Health Customer Service remains ready to respond to member needs as we adhere to guidelines to reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. Our building is closed to visitors. Members can call Customer Service from the safety of their home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have staff who speak their language.
