| | | CalOptima Health Celebrates Affordable Housing Groundbreaking | | | | Last week, CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn spoke at the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing complex in Costa Mesa. American Family Housing, an Orange County-based developer, is leading the project and received a nearly $500,000 grant through our Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program. A former motel site, the Avon River Apartments will offer 76 brand-new, fully remodeled rental homes for households at risk of homelessness or those transitioning out of homelessness. | | | CalOptima Health Featured on Front-Page OCR Story | | |
On August 13, the Orange County Register (OCR) featured a KFF Health News story on the front page titled "Telehealth on the Rise Amid ICE Raids." This was a print version that ran in addition to the original article, "Fear Pandemic: Immigration Raids Push Patients Back Into Telehealth," published on August 6. CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn was interviewed along with Dr. Jacob Sweidan, a member of our Provider Advisory Committee.
| | | First 5 Orange County Announces Board Appointments | | CalOptima Health’s Soledad Rivera, Manager, Community Relations, was recently appointed as the new Board Chair of First 5 Orange County after serving as Board Vice Chair this past year. In addition, CalOptima Health’s Board Vice Chair Vicente Sarmiento was newly appointed as the Board Vice Chair. First 5 Orange County is responsible for the local distribution of revenues collected from the 50-cent tobacco sales tax enacted by Proposition 10 in 1998 to promote and fund early childhood health, education and development programs from birth to 5 years old. CalOptima Health and First 5 Orange County partner on several critical initiatives that support our members, who will further benefit under the leadership of Soledad and Vice Chair Sarmiento. | | | AltaMed Selected as CalOptima Health Street Medicine Provider in Ahaheim | | |
On August 13, CalOptima Health distributed a press release announcing AltaMed Health Services as the Board-approved Street Medicine Program provider in Santa Ana. Selected through a competitive process, AltaMed will receive a two-year, up to $4.3 million grant to implement CalOptima Health’s specific Street Medicine Program model. “AltaMed is proud to expand our community outreach through this new program,” said Cástulo de la Rocha, AltaMed President and CEO. “We share CalOptima Health’s mission in providing access to care and treating all members with dignity and respect. AltaMed has been providing health services in Santa Ana for the past 17 years and is equipped to serve the most vulnerable residents in this community and ensure they can experience the benefits of this impactful program.”
| | | CalOptima Health's Covered California Monthly Update | | CalOptima Health continues to prepare for the launch of a Covered California line of business, effective January 1, 2027. Since submitting the initial filing to expand the scope of CalOptima Health’s current Knox-Keene Act license, the California Department of Managed Health Care has provided comments, and we have responded with revised exhibits. In addition, with the recent completion of the operational gap analysis by Deloitte Consulting LLP, staff have initiated several new workstreams to discuss and implement solutions in order to achieve operational readiness over the next year. Lastly, CalOptima Health continues to negotiate provider contracts and execute amendments with several existing vendors to include Covered California in their scopes of service. | | | CalOptima Health and OCMA Hosted a Townhall for Providers | | CalOptima Health and the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) hosted a virtual townhall for providers on August 14 to discuss the impacts of H.R. 1 on the physician community. | | | OneCare Flex Card Helps With Over-the-Counter and Grocery Purchases | | |
CalOptima Health OneCare (HMO D-SNP), a Medicare Medi-Cal Plan, now offers members a flex card (OneCare &more card) to purchase over-the-counter items (and in some cases, groceries) in-store and online. Additionally, the health rewards members have been able to earn in the form of a physical gift card in previous years are now added to the flex card instead. Members can earn rewards by completing certain health care tests or screenings and submitting an online form on this page.
To use the flex card, a member must first activate the card by texting ACTIVATE to 53746, calling 1-855-263-6673 (TTY 711), or visiting andmorehealth.com/onecare. Many members have not yet activated their cards and are missing out on the benefits. If members need help, please encourage them to call OneCare Customer Service at 1-877-412-2734 (TTY 711).
