CalOptima Health Offers $107.5M to Support Providers
CalOptima Health’s Board of Directors approved supplemental funding totaling up to $107.5 million in support of member and provider needs as the Public Health Emergency (PHE) ends and Medi-Cal renewals begin. This reflects an across-the-board 7.5% rate increase to support contracted health care providers while all current Medi-Cal recipients go through the renewal process to see if they can keep their health care benefits. We thank our providers for their continued commitment to the health and well-being of our members through the PHE unwinding and Medi-Cal renewal period.
Leader Nominated for Inspirational Women Awards
Kelly Bruno-Nelson, CalOptima Health Executive Director, Medi-Cal/CalAIM, was selected as a nominee for the Los Angeles Times B2B Publishing’s inaugural OC Inspirational Women Awards. The awards recognize outstanding Orange County-based women for their successes and accomplishments, as well as their exemplary leadership qualities within their organizations and communities across Orange County. The event to celebrate the finalists and honorees will take place on August 18 at the Irvine Marriott Spectrum.

CalOptima Health Visits HOPE Center | CalOptima Health leaders visited the Homeless Outreach and Proactive Engagement (HOPE) Center in Fullerton to learn about the center’s work serving people experiencing homelessness. Part of the North Orange County Public Safety Collaborative (NOCPSC) — a coalition of 11 cities, police agencies, nonprofits and agencies dedicated to providing health and human services to the community — the HOPE Center brings together social workers, mental health professionals, local law enforcement and other community service providers to efficiently coordinate and deliver resources throughout the region. Presentations to City Councils Highlight Concerns About Medi-Cal Renewal |
| | In June, CalOptima Health Chief Executive Officer Michael Hunn and the County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) Director An Tran gave a presentation to Irvine City Council members and the public on Medi-Cal redetermination. Notably, Irvine currently has the fourth most CalOptima Health members of any city in Orange County. In addition to providing information about the renewal process, Hunn encouraged the City Council and city staff to join our renewal campaign by hosting events, adopting a proclamation, and using our toolkit materials to communicate with their residents. He also provided a brief overview and history of CalOptima Health, as well as an update on our street medicine initiative. Hunn is scheduled to give similar presentations to the Anaheim City Council and the Buena Park City Council in the coming weeks. “There’s nothing worse than finding out your insurance is gone, and we certainly can’t put that burden on the health care system,” said Hunn, adding that it’s imperative to spread the message about the renewal process, so members can keep their Medi-Cal benefits to support their health care needs. Watch Hunn and Tran’s presentation.
