Celebrating Newest WellSpace in Anaheim | |
| | | Last week, CalOptima Health celebrated the grand opening of a new WellSpace at Loara High School in Anaheim. This WellSpace is the eighth of 10 funded by CalOptima Health’s Student Behavioral Health Incentive Program (SBHIP), which invested $25.5 million in a variety of mental health interventions in all 29 Orange County school districts. CalOptima Health collaborates with CHOC/Rady Children’s Health and the Orange County Department of Education on each WellSpace, which is a location on campus that provides students with a safe space to practice social-emotional learning skills and de-escalate mental health concerns. The WellSpaces are intended to help students develop resilience, perseverance and adaptability. Carmen Katsarov, Executive Director of Behavioral Health Integration, spoke at the grand opening noting that, “Our community may not be aware that CalOptima Health covers 280,000 kids in Orange County — that’s almost half of OC’s children. Right here, CalOptima Health is proud to have 135,000 members of all ages in Anaheim, which is 40% of all Anaheim residents.” The event was covered by NBC4 and the Orange County Register.

Chief Medical Officer Richard Pitts, D.O., Ph.D., spoke at the media event and encouraged everyone to get screened, "Everybody here should ask five people they know if they’re up to date on their cancer screenings."
CalOptima Health provided a $3 million grant to combat low cancer screening rates in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. The grant will streamline community cancer care education, screening and enhanced care coordination by developing a robust Asian American cancer network in Orange County.

Considerable progress has been made in our understanding of this condition, allowing us to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach.
