HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, happy new program year! An email was sent
to the CalTIP Board members on May 2 nd with a link to a checklist from which to select your agency's risk control service preferences for the 2019-20 program year. If you received the email, but you aren't the one making the decision, please send it on to the correct person. The email  was accompanied with attached service descriptions and field service guidelines. Please ensure that only one person from your agency responds to the survey so as to avoid confusion.
 
Once your agency has submitted its selection, we will have the appropriate risk control team member contact you to establish the service date and service details. You don't have to have the service completed immediately; you may schedule it to occur much later in the program year. The risk control team member will contact you again approximately six weeks prior to the originally agreed to time frame to confirm the date and service.

EPN PROGRAM

CalTIP and SAMBA terminated their relationship in January 2019. That means that any CalTIP member which decided to stay with SAMBA should be receiving Employer Pull Notice (EPN) service invoices directly from SAMBA.

CalTIP established a new EPN service program with A-Check in 2018 and began transitioning members to A-Check. CalTIP members enrolled in the A-Check EPN program are not billed directly by A-Check, as they are covered under the CalTIP EPN account.
A-Check does provide separation of services for city members so that only their transit operation's drivers are enrolled in the CalTIP sponsored EPN
A-Check program. City members using A-Check for other departments, such as police and public works, will receive direct billing from A-Check for the EPN services to those non-transit departments.
 
FTA MAKES $15 MILLION IN RESEARCH FUNDS AVAILABLE

On May 8, 2019, the Federal Transit Administration announced the opportunity to apply for $15 million in research funds through the new  Integrated Mobility Innovation (IMI) Demonstration Program
 
The IMI Program brings together three areas of high interest to the transit industry and traveling public: Mobility on Demand, Strategic Transit Automation Research, and Mobility Payment Integration. Applicants can propose projects that involve one or multiple areas.
 
Projects will be evaluated and selected based on criteria outlined in the  Notice of Funding Opportunity. Applications will be accepted until August 6, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

CDL DRUG AND ALCOHOL CLEARING HOUSE - COMING SOON!

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has released new resources to help Commercial Driver's License (CDL) drivers, their employers, Consortia/Third party Administrators (C/TPAs), Medical Review Officers (MROs), and Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) prepare for their roles in the forthcoming CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Mandated by MAP-21, this online database will contain information on drug and alcohol program violations committed by drivers, subject to 49 CFR Part 382.  This will ensure that FMCSA enforcement staff, State Driver Licensing Agencies, and State law enforcement personnel, as well as motor carriers and other employers of CDL drivers, have real-time information about these drug and alcohol program violations.
 
The Clearinghouse will be operational beginning January 6, 2020, with registration opening in fall 2019. Visit  https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov to learn more and to subscribe to receive email updates about the Clearinghouse from FMCSA, including when registration opens later this year.
