| | Recycling Education Students Across Calaveras County | Earth Day Poster Contest Across Local Schools | Over the past few months, Cal-Waste’s Education Team has been busy visiting local schools and engaging students with hands on recycling education programs throughout Calaveras County. | As part of our annual Earth Day program, Earth Day poster contest materials were distributed to elementary schools across the county. Students are currently creating their posters, and we look forward to collecting their submissions soon. Winning posters will be returned to schools in April along with prizes for the students who participate. | Hands On Recycling Workshops for Local Students | Our team also completed a three-part series of recycling education workshops with several local schools. Second grade students at Michelson Elementary and Mark Twain Elementary learned about recycling, composting, and how small actions can help protect our environment. For the first time, these workshops were also presented to participants in the Calaveras County Office of Education Adult Transition Program. | More Classroom Visits Coming This Spring | Education outreach will continue throughout the spring. Upcoming classroom visits include a fourth-grade class at Mark Twain Elementary, along with planned visits to Hazel Fischer Elementary and West Point Elementary. | Celebrating Earth Day with High School Students | On Earth Day, Cal-Waste will also present to high school students at Mountain Oaks Charter School in San Andreas. | Helping the Next Generation Recycle Right | Through classroom visits, workshops, and the Earth Day poster contest, Cal-Waste is proud to help students across Calaveras County learn how to recycle right and care for their local environment. | | Encouraging Young Scientists at the Calaveras Science Fair | | |
Students from across the county gathered to showcase their creativity and curiosity at the 41st Annual Calaveras Science Fair. The event saw an impressive turnout, with 44 science projects and three demonstrations presented by students in 4th through 8th grade.
Projects covered a wide range of topics, from testing snow beacon technology to experimenting with the best way to brush your teeth, highlighting the innovation and curiosity of young scientists throughout Calaveras County.
Cal-Waste participated in the event by providing a judge and helping ensure that student winners receive medals and cash prizes for their hard work and dedication. The competition also served as a steppingstone for four students who will now advance to the state science competition.
Events like the Calaveras Science Fair play an important role in inspiring the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers. Cal-Waste is grateful for the opportunity to help encourage students as they explore science and discover new ideas.
| | Shred Fest 2026: Document Shredding & E-Waste Recycling Event! | |
Cal-Waste is proud to partner with the Angels-Murphys Rotary Club for Shred Fest 2026; a free annual event focused on secure document shredding and responsible e-waste recycling. Join us on Saturday, April 18th from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Murphys Creek Theatre parking lot for a convenient drive-thru experience where materials will be safely collected and handled for you.
This event is a great opportunity to protect your personal information while properly disposing of old electronics. Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the Rotary Club’s scholarship fund. We look forward to helping keep Calaveras County clean, secure, and environmentally responsible!
| Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee Is Back! | | |
Cal-Waste will be joining the fun at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, taking place May 14th through May 17th, 2026. We invite Calaveras County residents to stop by and visit our booth during the fair.
Our team will be hosting recycling games, raffle prizes, and fun educational activities for families and kids of all ages. It is a great opportunity to learn more about recycling, meet members of the Cal-Waste team, and enjoy one of Calaveras County’s most beloved community events.

Cal-Waste was honored to take part in the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District Crab Feed held on January 17th. Events like this help bring the community together while raising funds that support the district’s vital emergency services.
The Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District plays a critical role in protecting residents throughout the region. Their firefighters respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and other incidents while working year-round to keep Calaveras County safe.

This exciting project will bring a colorful new piece of public art to the heart of the community, celebrating the spirit and history of San Andreas while brightening the downtown area for residents and visitors alike.
