Greetings,
DID YOU KNOW that we often talk about the importance of supplemental minerals such as magnesium and zinc. For good reason. They are difficult to attain dietarily. However, there is another critical mineral that we should talk about a little more...calcium. Believe it or not, even the Dietary Guidelines for Americans says that many Americans are low in calcium.
Calcium is not only good for bones, but is a vital mineral for maintaining cell function. A diet low in calcium can lead to the formation of numerous health issues, including an increased risk of colorectal cancer. An 11-year study following hundreds of thousands of subjects from Frontiers in Nutrition found that those who had diets low in calcium had a significantly increased risk for colorectal cancers.
The misnomer is that one of the few ways to get calcium dietarily is from cow's milk. For years, our clients have been able to optimize their calcium needs from myriad dietary sources and supplements without having to rely on milk products.

| | Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online | On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. A recent analysis of methyl B12 supplements sold on Amazon found only 56% met label claim. Aman was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. Know your supplier! | | Have a happy, healthy day! Steve: The idea that holiday season is upon us may be crazy to think about on October 1st, but it really isn't. Rosh Hashanah has passed and Yom Kippur is today. Halloween is firmly entrenched as part of holiday season because there is just as much temptation to deviate from your optimal lifestyle choices as Thanksgiving and the winter holidays.
According to public health surveys, two-thirds say they overindulge with food, nearly 45% say they take a break from exercise, and more than half report feeling tired and have less time for themselves. Plus, one- third admit they drink much more alcohol during the holidays.
Now is the time to get into the optimal habit mindset. If you have not already, buckle down to follow your eating and supplement plan, exercise and sleep routine, and just as important...your stress management routine.
Here are a few other tips you may find helpful.
-
Diet: When it comes to sustaining healthy eating habits, plan ahead. If you have an evening holiday events, don't starve yourself all day. Eat a meal rich in protein not too far away from the event so you won't overeat. Avoiding dessert is ideal but if you indulge, just have a bite.
-
Exercise: Keep the same exercise schedule as much as possible. If an obligation prevents you from going to the gym or going for a run, be flexible. Do something at home that while not replacing the workout, will suffice.
-
Sleep: Go to sleep and wake up at your normal times, even when traveling. It's okay to say no to some holiday invitations if you feel like you're going to overextend yourself.
-
Alcohol: Alcohol quickly adds to your daily calorie counter, especially if it is combined with another caloric beverage (i.e. juice or soda). Of course, binge drinking is never a healthy choice. If you do drink, try to stick to the recommended 1-2 drinks over many hours. Avoid drinking on an empty stomach and drink plenty of water.
-
Stress Management: Stress during the holidays can be the most difficult to manage. Adhering to the aforementioned helps innately. However, having a "go-to" technique to follow is huge.
We're here to help if you want to make an appointment for any or all of the above.

| | Colitis Patient Eschewing Medication | | |
A 23 year-old female came to see Steve to help maintain colitis remission, help bring on her period which was dormant, aid in weight loss, and help with binge eating.
She had been able to stay away from medication for her colitis, but still dealt with flare-ups that caused her to have blood in her stool periodically. Her blood work showed excess acidity and low grade inflammation, among other things.
She did our PureInsight Genetics panel, so Steve went over the results to elucidate not only where some of her issues came from, but what could be done to help switch off any negatively expressing genes.
Steve helped her alkalize her diet, gave recommendations for how to repair her intestinal lining to the degree that it could be repaired, fixed areas of nutrient deprivation, as well as gave her binge eating and stress management techniques.
While she definitely had some days where she binged, for the vast majority she was on track. She cut down on saturated fat, red meats, and acidic foods, as well as took targeted healing supplements. In a little over a month, she noticed her clothes fitting better because she lost weight. She got her period back. Moreover, she had not seen blood in her stool.

Recently the Chiropractic Chronicle cited findings from July 2025 JAMA. More than 450 children with concussions were examined. Nearly 10% had an elevated heart rate upon standing and other Autonomic Dysfunction (AD). About 25% had what is called Symptom Provocation, which includes dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, posture changes and mental health concerns. 9% had both AD and Symptom Provocation.
This JAMA study reveals that concussion-related autonomic changes are more common than many realize, and they are not always detectable by symptoms alone. For chiropractors, this reinforces the importance of addressing vertebral subluxation as part of a comprehensive approach to concussion management.
By restoring balance to the spine and nervous system, chiropractic care may help children and adolescents optimize recovery, regain balance, reduce lingering symptoms, and build resilience in the face of the stress that occurs with a concussion.
