How you've helped your neighbors in need on their road to self-sufficiency.
New graphing calculator program a huge success

This year, we piloted a new calculator program to provide local high school students taking advanced math and science classes with the $100-plus graphing calculator needed to complete their work. In some cases, teachers had “loaners” that could be used in class, but that left students without an option for homework assignments.

In collaboration with high school math department heads and guidance directors, we were able to get each of this year's 100 calculators to students in need. These calculators are theirs to keep, to be used throughout high school and future educational endeavors.

As shown in these students' own words, the calculators were greatly appreciated:

"This would really help because we would not be able to afford the calculator."

"We are a family of 5 and my mother needs help getting a calculator for my class thank you."

"Thank you for providing an opportunity for low-income families."

"Thank you for your help"

Thank you for your ongoing support that will allow us to help students and families by making this a permanent program for next year and beyond.

First grad of the year!

Sophia, a young single mom, has been studying with Beverly Bootstraps' HiSET program for a year and a half. It wasn't easy with an active preschooler in the home, but Sophia gave up her one free morning per week to study with her tutor. Due to her ongoing commitment, Sophia just passed the fifth and final test earning herself a high school equivalency diploma, becoming our first graduate of the school year!

Sophia is now working with the Beverly Bootstraps College and Career Readiness program to plan her next steps. She is interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field, perhaps as a pediatric nurse or an x-ray technician. College is on the horizon for Sophia.
