Calhoun County Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott Honored with Rotary Hero Award

Calhoun County’s Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott was recognized with the 2025 Rotary Hero Award during the annual Rotary District 6360 Conference in South Haven this May, honoring her exceptional dedication and leadership as a member of the Rotary Club of Battle Creek.

The Rotary Hero Award is presented to outstanding members across the district who exemplify Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self.” Scott was one of two members honored by the Battle Creek club this year, alongside fellow Rotarian Kathy Gallagher, for their pivotal roles in guiding the club through a year of transition.

In 2024-2025, the Battle Creek Rotary Club shifted away from paid administrative support, placing a heavier reliance on its volunteer members to sustain operations. As Treasurer, Scott continued her financial responsibilities and played a critical role in developing and implementing new systems that allowed the club to operate efficiently with volunteer support alone.

She led the transition planning by creating and documenting financial procedures, calendars, and role descriptions for essential duties. Scott also oversaw member invoicing and guided the club’s Finance Committee and administrative transition team through the new processes with patience and clarity. In addition, she improved practices surrounding the club’s education fund, managed in partnership with the Battle Creek Community Foundation.

“Kelli’s leadership and attention to detail helped our club make a smooth and successful transition to an all-volunteer model,” said Rotary Club members in the award nomination. “Her role in our transition is invaluable.”

“We’re proud to see Kelli Scott recognized for the same dedication and leadership she brings to Calhoun County government every day,” said Derek King, Chair of the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners. “She’s widely regarded as one of the top county administrators in Michigan, and this award is a reflection of her deep commitment to community service.”
