The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing an individual incarcerated at the Calhoun County Correctional Facility for reaching an important educational milestone while also highlighting the programming and opportunities available to individuals during their time in custody.
At age 66, Judge Tucker successfully completed the General Educational Development (GED) program and earned his GED certificate while incarcerated at the Calhoun County Correctional Facility.
Tucker’s achievement represents a significant personal milestone and demonstrates the value of providing educational opportunities within a correctional setting. Completing a GED requires commitment, perseverance and a willingness to invest in personal growth, and Tucker took advantage of the resources available to work toward that goal while in custody.
“Achievements like this are exactly why these programs matter,” Sheriff Steve Hinkley said. “Time spent in our facility can be an opportunity for individuals to make positive changes and prepare themselves for what comes next. Mr. Tucker made the decision to put in the work and earn his GED at 66 years old, and that is something worth recognizing.”
The GED program is one of several opportunities available to individuals incarcerated at the Calhoun County Correctional Facility. Through correctional programming and partnerships with community organizations, the Sheriff’s Office works to connect participants with education, skills and resources that can support personal development and help prepare them for a successful return to the community.
