Amount: Up to $9 million (dependent on jurisdiction size and if eligible for statutory waiver subject to extraordinary need)
Match: Yes (5% for jurisdictions serving up to 20,000 residents; 10% for jurisdictions between 20,000 to 1 million; 15% for jurisdictions serving over 1 million residents)
Eligibility: Fire Departments (fire department is an agency or organization having a formally recognized arrangement with a state, local, tribal, or territorial authority (city, county, parish, fire district, township, town, or other governing body), Nonaffiliated EMS organizations, State fire training academies
Grant Summary: The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The program guidance document provides potential applicants with the details of the requirements, processing, and evaluation of an application for financial assistance for eligible activities. The FY 2020 AFG Program has three activities: 1) Operations and Safety; 2) Vehicle Acquisition; and 3) Regional Projects (Each activity has its own eligibility requirements.
