Kern High School District Receives over $15.4 Million for the US EPA: Clean Bus Program



In a groundbreaking development, Kern High School District has been awarded a staggering $15,405,000.00 grant from the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Bus Program. This transformative grant is set to propel the district's commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness to new heights. California Consulting Senior Project Manager, Dr. Julie High, in collaboration with KHSD staff, secured the winning application.

Corning Union Elementary School District Receives Over $2 Million in CDE Funding

California Consulting is thrilled to announce a significant victory for the Corning Union Elementary School District (CUESD), which has been awarded a transformative $2,226,321 through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act-Stronger Connections Grant, facilitated by the California Department of Education (CDE). This grant is a monumental step towards enhancing safety and well-being in schools.


Our own Statewide Senior Grant Writer, Dana Leusch, in partnership with the dedicated team at CUESD, played a pivotal role in securing this grant. Their collaborative efforts in crafting a compelling and comprehensive grant application were instrumental in this achievement.

School Breakfast Program (SBP) and Summer Meal Programs (SMP) Grants

Deadline: March 1st, 2024

Amount: $15,000.00 per site

Eligibility: To qualify for SBP grants, at least 20 percent of enrolled students at the school site must be approved for free or reduced-price meals. To receive SMP grants, the site must meet program eligibility criteria. The Budget Act allows the California Department of Education (CDE) to award grants only to school districts, county offices of education, and direct-funded charter schools.

Education for Homeless Children and Youth

Amount: The maximum amount of funding will be based on the number of enrolled homeless children and youth as reported on the 2022-23 Cumulative DataQuest reports. CA Dept of Education Funding: Specialized Secondary Programs (SSP) Grant 2024-25

Deadline: May 29th, 2024

Amount: Up to $100,000

Match: No

Eligibility: The proposed SSP must be new to the identified school site(s) and will provide students with advanced instruction and training in high technology fields and in the performing arts in grades nine through twelve. All California public high schools, county offices of education, consortium of local educational agencies (LEAs), and direct-funded charter schools are eligible to apply.

Senior Project Manager: Michelle Ferguson

Michelle Ferguson is a Project Manager for California Consulting. Her grant writing expertise is built upon more than 20 years of writing and editing experience, primarily in journalism and with Colorado’s nonprofit sector.


Throughout her career in grantwriting and management, Michelle has raised nearly $9 million to benefit a wide spectrum of societal causes ranging from improved student literacy levels to increasing equitable outcomes in healthcare for those uninsured.
