Fall Law Classes are underway at CDTA!

CDTA College of Law is off to another exciting year. On Tuesday, September 5, CDTA started its 6th year. Returning students gathered at the law school to greet new 1L students as they made their way to their first night in a law school class.
Students even attended via distance learning from their own homes! Last January, the Committee of Bar Examiners approved CDTA to begin using distance learning by offering classes to students living 50 miles or more from Indio. The distance learners will log-in real time to attend the class three nights a week, and drive to the main campus on Saturdays.

Project #180 Started September 18th
Mock Trial / Pathway Program at Amistad High School
The idea of
Project #180
was born when Criminal Defense Attorney and Dean of the California Desert Trial Academy College of Law, John Patrick Dolan read an article that was published in The Wall Street Journal in October of 2015 about an "Inmate Debate Team that defeated The Harvard Debate Team".
The showdown took place at the Eastern New York Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison where convicts can take courses taught by faculty from the nearby college, and where inmates have formed a popular debate team. After a long impressive debate, the inmates prevailed in a very tough competition...And our idea for
Project #180
was underway.
Our number one priority - to keep at-risk teens from committing crimes and subsequently entering the juvenile justice system.
Project #180
offers academic enrichment aligned with the judicial system, evidenced-based life skills training, Mock Trial, student advocacy and community outreach services.
Each week the students travel to CDTA College of Law for a speakers series. A big thank you to Judge Dale Wells for visiting the Project #180 teens and sharing his story.

Home Grown MCLE - Family Law Update Seminar

The California Desert Trial Academy along with LawTalk MCLE and the Desert Center for Legal Education will be hosting a Family Law Update seminar on Saturday, September 30. Registration and continental breakfast begins at 7:45 am at the California Desert Trial Academy.
Speakers: Honorable Judge R. Wells, Commissioner Mickie E. Reed, Sheila Williams, H. Les Kornblatt, Natalie Keller and Louis Barry Mack.
Cost: $195 (Friends of CDTA receive a $100 discount)
7.5 MCLE credits of which 1-hour is Ethics.

A Big Thank You to Jeff Fleming
Guest Speaker at CDTA's Saturday Enrichment Program Barristers' Lunch
Professor Jeff A. Fleming founded Fleming's Fundamentals of Law in 1982 after graduating from Western State University College of Law and passign the bar exam.
For 35 years, Fleming's has been the leading provider for Baby Bar preparation, offering substantive law reviews with examination methods and strategies for success on the Baby Bar Exam.
Last Saturday, Professor Fleming visited CDTA to explain the importance of good note-taking, definitions, approaches and study habits to new law students and returning law students. Thank you!!! All you sage advice was greatly appreciated.
