Happy Spring!

We are excited to share the latest resources and CDI events with you. We recently hosted the Spring Professional Learning Network (PLN) with Dr. Tracy White Weeden as our keynote speaker. In addition, our partners at the Diagnostic Center of Northern California hosted three sessions around screening and assessment, intervention, and resources that were very well received. We will offer this series again next year. We stay committed to continuing to provide these learning opportunities to our CDI community.

A Note From Our DCN Partners

Education Specialist

Diagnostic Center Northern California (DCN)

The Diagnostic Center of Northern California (DCN) is excited to partner with the California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI) to further the Diagnostic Center’s mission of supporting educational teams throughout the state of California. Currently, the partnership provides free informational trainings on dyslexia screening, formal dyslexia assessment, and educational interventions. These trainings share evidenced-based reading interventions for students with phonological or orthographic deficits.

The DCN is thrilled at the opportunity to get this information out to as many educators and families as we can and through the California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI), we’ve expanded our reach and will impact more student outcomes!

Keep an eye out for future training dates and we hope to see you there!

Literacy is a Human Right of the 21st Century

Dr. Tracy White Weeden discusses the moral imperative of reading success for all. Children and adults who are taught to unlock the structure of the English language have a “place at the table of plenty” in a 21st-century knowledge economy. The stakes are high: the “school-to-prison pipeline” is a potentially grim reality for scholars when systems are not designed for their success. As a literacy ally, what can your part be to influence from the middle as part of a literacy movement with a focus on reading success for all?

Dyslexia: Understanding the Science and Proven Instructional Approaches

Join Dr. Tracy White Weeden and Dr. Rebecca Tolson for a robust discussion of the science of reading and dyslexia including the key features of the Structured Literacy approach and activities for different levels, including students at risk in literacy for a variety of reasons, such as those from low-income backgrounds or English learners. Current research will be presented to ensure participants have a basic understanding of this common reading disability.
