Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month

Happy Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

As we celebrate the rich diversity of California's AAPI community, the California Mortgage Relief Program recognizes the cultural barriers AAPI homeowners face in receiving financial assistance. The program continues to work hard to ensure critical program resources are made accessible to communities in their language.

The California Mortgage Relief Program is offering a maximum of $80,000 per household to help reduce or eliminate partial claims or loan deferrals taken during or after January 2020, which will also increase home equity. There is no fee to apply and the funds do not need to be paid back to this state program.

All homeowners must meet the following eligibility requirements:

In writing about the California Mortgage Relief Program, La Prensa Hispana magazine (Coachella Valley) quoted Kevin Johnson, a San Joaquin homeowner, on how the program has assisted him and his family: "Keeping my home is important because it’s not just a house. This is my home. This is the only home my two boys have ever known."

About the California Mortgage Relief Program

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of Americans and created turmoil for homeowners, California received $1 billion in mortgage relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act’s Homeowner Assistance Fund. Homeowners who have fallen behind on their housing payments due to pandemic-related financial hardship can use these funds to get caught up.

The California Mortgage Relief Program is being provided to homeowners through CalHFA Homeowner Relief Corporation in collaboration with the state’s Housing is Key initiative.
