Program Update Makes More Homeowners

Eligible For Help

The California Mortgage Relief Program is announcing that it is adjusting its delinquency date requirement for past-due mortgage and property tax payments from August 1, 2023 to February 1, 2024.

Homeowners who have missed at least two mortgage payments or one property tax payment by February 1, 2024, and are currently behind, may qualify for up to $80,000 in financial assistance.

Applicants who were previously declined because they did not meet the prior delinquency date requirements may now be eligible for the program with this change.

As each homeowner’s situation is unique, we encourage homeowners to visit CaMortgageRelief.org for eligibility information, program requirements, and information about how to apply.

If you have questions or would like to speak with a team member, please call the Contact Center at (888) 840-2594 during the hours of 8 AM – 6 PM PT, Monday - Friday.

Reminder: Sign a TPA If Someone Else Helps With Your Application

If you need help completing your application to the California Mortgage Relief Program and would like the support of a trusted family member or friend to help you with the application process, you can designate someone to help you with your application.

The California Mortgage Relief Program has a third-party authorization form, which you can access by clicking here for English or here for Spanish. You can also go to the very bottom of the California Mortgage Relief Program website's home page for a link to the document.

All you need to do is start an application so you have an application number, which you will then include on the California Mortgage Relief Program's third-party authorization form.

Work with your third-party person to complete the form, and when you're ready to submit, make sure the form is in a PDF format under 1MB in size and email it to [email protected] for review. A California Mortgage Relief Program team member will be in touch within 3 business days to verify your information and ensure your designated third-party person is authorized to help you with the application process.

In Case You Missed It: California Mortgage Relief Program In the News

Did you see recent news stories about the California Mortgage Relief Program? CBS 8 San Diego, KFMB CW San Diego, Univision 21 in Fresno, and Univision 14 in the Bay Area all ran various stories in December and early January about the California Mortgage Relief Program and encouraged California homeowners who are behind on their housing payments to apply for assistance from the program.

The segments also highlighted legal aid groups, housing counseling agencies, and community organizations that are helping Californians stay in their homes, and featured homeowners who have received assistance from the program, including one homeowner who, after receiving assistance that helped save their home, is now encouraging other homeowners to apply to the program.

About the California Mortgage Relief Program

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of Americans and created turmoil for homeowners, California received relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act’s Homeowner Assistance Fund. Homeowners who have fallen behind on their housing payments due to pandemic-related financial hardship can use these funds to get caught up.

The California Mortgage Relief Program is being provided to homeowners through the CalHFA Homeowner Relief Corporation.
