The tour of the NYRR RunCenter and New Balance RunHub

A video tour of the NYRR Run Center, a haven for athletes young and old, by Larry Eder.

It was a unique event, and the excitement of the young athletes, the smiles on the team from New York Road Runners and New Balance told the story. A dream for over a decade, the NYRR RunCenter is at the beginning. George Hirsch, Chairman of the NYRR noted that the RunCenter is just opening and we have little idea what more it can give the running community.

2016 HS Cross Country Coaches of the Year Announced

By Tyler Mayforth, USTFCCCA, Jan. 11, 2017

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday the state-by-state winners of its third annual High School Coach of the Year award for cross country.

One boys coach and one girls coach from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia - as seen in the lists below - were honored for their successes during the fall of 2016, as selected by a committee of experts from around the nation. Doug Soles, of Great Oak HS in Temecula, won in both  categories for California.

Dwight Stones: The Conscience Of Track & Field High Jump Legend, TV Commentator Calls It As He Sees It
When older followers of track & field first think of Dwight Stones, they often recall "the rookie" - the brash young high jumper who embraced the revolutionary Fosbury Flop, was the youngest member the 1972 USA Olympic track & field squad, captured the bronze medal in Munich, and went on to author a truly outstanding high jump career. Yet younger fans see Stones in a different way: as a passionate, informed track & field commentator who does his homework and has earned respect as a true professional from all corners of the sport. Both assessments are right on target.
High Times at Akron's Pole Vault Convention: Barber Survives Close Shave, AL for Nageotte

by Dave Hunter
1/7/17, Akron, OH
While arctic temperatures and bone-chilling winds punished most of the country, a select group of elite pole vaulters were heating things up inside the Stiles Athletic Center on the University of Akron campus at the 5th annual Akron Pole Vault Convention.
Members of pole vault royalty were in attendance. In the women's competition, the headliner was Jenn Suhr. The 2012 Olympic vault champion and the indoor world record holder had made the trip down from her upstate New York home to take on a worthy field that included former national champion Mary Saxer and emerging young star Katie Nageotte.

Updated January 6, 2017
From Larry Eder: I finished a quick interview this morning with Harry Marra. Before I post that, I wanted to repost this interview from 2015 by David Hunter. David did a wonderful job describing one of the most important coaches in our sport. Harry Marra is a man of much generosity. He is also a keen observer, and analyst of athletic talent. He is also, finally, one of the kindest people I know. He loved the last seven years coaching Ashton and Brianne.
