California's Affordable Homes At Risk

The California Housing Partnership has released two new reports showing that unless state and local governments take coordinated action, tens of thousands of low-income seniors, families, and other individuals are at risk of losing their currently affordable homes. Join the webinar this Monday, 4/13 @ 11am on Zoom for more report details, case studies in preservation and the policy solutions underway.

Report Highlights:

  • 6,000+ subsidized affordable rental homes may no longer be affordable as soon as next year due to the loss of federal, state and local protections.

  • Nearly 18,000 previously affordable homes have been lost in California since 2001 through conversion to market rate housing or expiring regulatory restrictions.

  • 46,000+ could lose their affordability within 10 years if nothing is done.

  • Rents charged for 268,000+ homes concentrated in Southern California, the Bay Area, and Sacramento and Fresno counties are no longer affordable.

  • 78,000+ homes are at immediate risk of losing their affordable rents, while up to 433,166 are at risk of losing their affordable rents in the near future.

  • 47% of lost unsubsidized affordable rental homes were located in resource-rich areas that are hardest to replace.

The California Housing Partnership creates and preserves affordable and sustainable homes for Californians with low incomes by providing expert financial and policy solutions to nonprofit and public partners.
