On Sunday, February 28, the Senate accepted the House budget offer of a 1% increase in per pupil spending. The per pupil spending will increase by $71.00 to $7178.00 per student for the 2016-2017 school year.
This is far below the amount that was proposed and approved by both chambers on February 11th. The House had approved a per pupil increase of $124.00 and the Senate had approved a per pupil increase of $142.00.
This is unacceptable. The Florida Legislators made a promise to increase per pupil funding by record levels this year and they are breaking their promise. Please email or call your Senator and Representative and tell them that our children deserve more than a 1% increase in per pupil spending.
