Dear District 1 Zontians and Supporters:

It is my pleasure to invite you to the Zonta International District Conference that will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, the last weekend in October. The theme of the 2025 District Conference is “STRONGER TOGETHER: Leading with Strength, Positivity and Resilience” as we build a better world for women and girls, and the program planned for this weekend promises to fulfill expectations for that goal.

Participation in the biennual District Conference is a great opportunity to meet Zontians from other clubs and countries and enjoy a stimulating and rewarding time together; learn more about the objectives and programs of Zonta International and how we conduct the business of the District; and make sure your voice and the voice of your club is heard.

The venue of the Conference is the Embassy Suites by Hilton, Boston Logan Airport. We have a block of suites with a special rate reserved for Friday, October 24, through Sunday, October 26. Each 2-Room Suite is $279/night and includes 2 queen beds + sofa bed (3-6 people), two TVs, wet bar, desk and chair, Wi-Fi, free made-to-order breakfast, restaurant, pool, gym. Free shuttle to and from airport; $30/day parking. The registration fee is US $125 before 10/1 and $150 after; 1st timers will receive a $25 rebate by mail after the conference. Zonta District 1 Business Voting

Voting is a crucial aspect of the Zonta District Fall Conference. It's the mechanism through which delegates from member clubs make decisions on important matters, such as bylaws, budget proposals, and the election of the next district board. Voting will be held online in 2025, over three days: October 21 – 23.

Who Votes?

The voting members of the district conference are the governor, lieutenant governor, area directors, treasurer, and delegates from each club in good standing. ‘Good standing’ eligibility will be based on the club’s position and membership as of 8/1/2025.

When Do We Pick Delegates?

Delegates to Fall Conference need to be selected at the September business meeting. Conference Credentials for Delegates (link below) must be received by October 1st. Each club in good standing is entitled to one delegate and one alternate. Clubs with more than 30 members are entitled to two delegates and two alternates, per Article 12 of the District 1 Bylaws. Electronic voting will be held the week before Fall Conference. No proxies are allowed for online electronic voting.

What is on the Ballot?

There are three parts to the ballot:

  • 2026-2028 officers and nominating committee;
  • Amend District 1 Rules of Procedure;
  • Proposed District 1 Budget for 2026 - 2028

Where Do We Get the Details?

All details will be posted on the Conference webpage in the next couple of weeks, so they can be reviewed and discussed with club members before delegate voting begins. A Zoom meeting on October 20th will give delegates and members a chance to:

Meet candidates nominated for 2026-2028;

Review/answer questions on all the items for voting.

Get instructions on the online voting procedure.

Conference Action Items

Form for Club Action Items – 10/1/2025 Deadline for submission

Each club is asked to have one designated person collect information and complete this form by October 1st. There are four sections: Service Project “Go Bags”, Memorial Service, Marketplace, and Online Silent Auction. Thank you!

Each club is asked to collect an item to include in the bags. See a template letter and an Amazon Wish List to help jumpstart collections at this link:

Service Project: ‘GO BAGS’

The Zonta Club of Quaboag Valley will introduce a project to educate women/families about the importance of planning for an emergency evacuation that no one wants to think about. With the help of all clubs in the District, conference attendees will attempt to create 50 donated “Go Bags” filled with a few essential items and an educational pamphlet that provides insightful tips. Attendees will take the filled go-bags back to their club to replicate and use as appropriate in their communities.

Form for Club Action Items

Memorial Service

We will remember the Zontian sisters we lost this biennium in a ceremony on Sunday morning. The Zonta Club of Berkshire County will be looking for the name, picture, date of passing, and a short write-up for active members who have passed since October 2023.

Use Form for Club Action Items for the writeup. If you have a picture, please email to:  ZontaBerkshire@gmail.com.

Use Form for Club Action Items for Club donations to the Online Auction.

Individual donations can be submitted using the Individual Online Auction Form.

Pictures of the donation need to be emailed to Janice Severance, Auction Coordinator.

Online Auction to Benefit ZI Foundation or ZI District 1

Clubs and individuals are asked to donate (or regift) items or services that members can bid on! Pictures of the donation will be emailed to the coordinator of the online auction; donors will be asked to deliver the donation to auction winners by mail, which influences the donation choice. (Tip: The item might be purchased and sent after the event by Amazon.)

What do you have that others would LOVE! Gift cards, event tickets, jewelry, unique pocketbooks, scarves, or collectibles, services that can be offered remotely, gift baskets. Use your imagination! The Online Auction is for all members and supporters! It will begin on October 14th and end at 8 pm EST on October 25th.

Marketplace

Does your club have a raffle basket or items to sell in the Zonta Store? Just let us know if you need a full or half-table. This is a no-cost way to raise operational funds!

Use Form for Club Action Items for Club participation in the Marketplace.

Individuals are invited to sell items as well, with a suggested donation of 10% of sales to District 1.

Email info@ZontaDistrict1.org with your contact info and the number of tables needed.

Speakers and Interactive Workshops

Zonta International Director, Vivienne Shen

Vivienne is the District 1 Liaison and joins us from the Zonta Club of Hsin Chu, Taiwan, District 31. Attendees will learn first-hand about Zonta's progress this biennium and the vision for our future in the fight for gender equity. She will also talk about the Core Values and Code of Conduct that Zonta International has been working on as part of our strategic vision: Zonta, Gender Equity and a Vision for 2030 & Beyond, and the 2024-2026 Biennial Goals. She is most anxious to meet all members of the District.

Zonta Foundation for Women Ambassador, Dr. Mary Ann Rubis

Mary Ann is a member of the Zonta Club of Quaboag Valley and served for the last two biennia as Development Director for the Foundation. Her interactive presentation will highlight the impact Zonta has had over the years on the lives of women and girls and provide updates on this biennium's international service projects and educational awards. Attendees will also learn how to secure Zonta's future and their own legacy. Feel empowered to be part of something so much greater than any one of us.

Sherri Simmons, PhD, MSW

Sherri is an Assistant Professor in the Social Work department and a core faculty member in Women and Gender Studies at the University of New Hampshire.  Her presentation is entitled Strength Through Activism and will underscore the need for an urgent and collective response to the state of civil and human rights being threatened with erasure during these turbulent and confusing times. Her aim is to inform, inspire, and energize participants on the imperative of persistent, strategic, courageous, and unapologetic activist engagement.

Lexi Cole, MS, MPH

Lexi is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist on the staff of Tufts University’s Food Is Medicine Institute.

In her talk, entitled Nourishing & Sustaining Our World, she will share her insights on why nutrition is foundational to health, and how integrating it into health care is a powerful, practical strategy to close health gaps and create more just outcomes for all.

Deb Shannon, Coach and Consultant

Deb works with women who are navigating a transition or simply seeking more alignment with who they are today. In her talk, entitled Mental Fitness for Resiliency, she will share critical insights on positive intelligence and mental fitness, and the power of self-talk. Attendees can expect to leave with practical tools rooted in Positive Psychology, Performance Psychology, and Neuroscience, essential in building resilience and clear-headed confidence.

Keryn Kriegl-Roberts. Project and Relationship Manager, NH Center for Nonprofits

Keryn, Membership Chair for the Zonta Club of Concord, will share ideas on how each of us can serve as Zonta ambassadors by sharing personal stories, making introductions, and building relationships that lead to increased engagement and support. We will also learn how to implement an ambassador training approach within our clubs.

Keryn will then moderate a panel discussion on Innovative Strategies for Recruitment, Inclusion & Collaboration

The En-ROADS Climate Workshop, co-developed with the MIT Sustainability Initiative.

Zonta’s focus on climate justice is about putting gender equity and human rights at the core of decision-making and action on climate change.

Working with experienced facilitators familiar with Zonta's focus, conference attendees will have an interactive experience that helps build support for strategies to address climate change through the testing of the En-ROADS Climate Simulator. The resulting experience is hopeful, scientifically grounded, action-oriented, and eye-opening.
