DAAD Scholarships and Grants
Call for Applications
Research Stays

University scholars may apply to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories for 1-3 months in Germany. Grants are awarded for research and working projects only. Apply by October 15th for research stays beginning between April 1st and Sept 30th, 2018.

German Studies Research Grants

This specialized DAAD program offers grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (one to two months) in Germany. Apply by Nov 1st, 2017.

Roger Todd

Roger graduated from the University of Manitoba with an MA in Political Science and was awarded a DAAD scholarship to pursue a PhD in Göttingen. In 2016, Roger published a two-volume book, titled “Germany and the Significance of the First World War,” which attempts to synthesize many of the ideas about the motivations of Germany in entering the war in 1914.

Silvia Fehrmann to head Berlin Artist-in-Residence Program

Starting January 1st, 2018, Silvia Fehrmann will assume her new position as director of the DAAD Artist-in Residence Program in Berlin. DAAD is proud to have gained such an experienced and well-connected leader to head the program that hosts 21 artists from around the globe every year.


German Centers for Research and Innovation
DAAD to Spearhead Centers Worldwide

Germany's Foreign Service has integrated its five Centers for Research and Innovation in New York , Tokyo, Sao Paolo, New Delhi, and Moscow into DAAD's unique international network. The Centers aim to increase the visibility of German science and technology and to foster collaborations between scientists and innovators worldwide, through events and publications.

According to the web portal deutschland.de, Germans still prefer paper books to e-books. Recent statistics show that 27% of Germans read more than 10 books per year, with novels and thrillers being the most popular. Click below for a list of Germany's top reads.
