About the Transportation Advisory Council


The Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) is seeking both a qualified management representative and two labour representatives to join our Transportation Advisory Council (TAC). This is a unique opportunity for an experienced industry leader to contribute to the advancement of health and safety in Ontario’s transportation sector.


The TAC provides expert guidance and industry insights to IHSA, helping to shape safety programs, training, and initiatives that support employers and workers in the sector.


Eligibility & Desired Competencies

We are looking for a management and two labour representatives who meet the following criteria:

  • Industry Experience: Advanced experience in Ontario’s transportation sector (e.g., logistics, trucking, transit, or related industries).
  • Health & Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, best practices, and risk management.
  • Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to provide strategic input, collaborate with stakeholders, and advocate for safety improvements.
  • Commitment to IHSA’s Mission: Passion for enhancing safety in transportation and a willingness to contribute expertise to advisory discussions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to represent industry perspectives, engage with regulatory bodies, and contribute to sector-wide initiatives.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in health and safety, risk management, or operational leadership within the transportation industry is preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and collaborative problem-solving skills.


Management experience requirement:  Extensive and proven experience in successfully running a large operation or working at a senior management level and managing organizational change and development.


Labour experience requirement: Extensive and proven experience leading and representing employees in a labour union.


What to Expect


Term Duration:

  • Members serve a three-year term, with the opportunity for renewal.


Meetings:

  • The council meets at least three times per year (in-person and/or virtually).


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Provide industry expertise and feedback to support IHSA’s transportation safety initiatives.
  • Identify emerging risks and industry trends that impact workplace safety.
  • Collaborate with other council members to develop recommendations for IHSA’s programs, training, and resources.
  • Act as a liaison between IHSA and Ontario’s transportation sector.
  • Act as an ambassador for IHSA within the transportation sector.


Employees of Members designated to the Transportation & Warehousing industry sector in the following Rate Groups/NAICS and Class Codes:

  • Class F1: Rail, water, truck, transportation and postal services
  • Class F2: Air, transit, ground passenger, recreational and pipeline transportation, courier services and warehousing.
