8th Annual Small Works Show 

December 6, 2012 - January 6, 2013

440 Gallery is hosting its popular, annual small works show. This juried exhibition will feature any artwork which is small in scale, but large in impact. The exhibition will run from Thursday, December 6, 2012 through Sunday, January 6, 2013

 

Jurors. The jurors for this year's Small Works Show are Michelle Segre and Steve DiBenedetto. Both are well-established New York City artists with extensive experiences in exhibiting their work, as well as in teaching.  Segre is a sculptor who has exhibited her work widely since the mid-1990's. DiBenedetto is a painter who has been showing his work in the United States and Europe since the mid-1980's. (See below for More on our Jurors.)  

Eligibility: All artists who currently reside or work in the USA are eligible to apply.   

 

Requirements: Work must be no more than 12" in any direction including the framing or mounting, or video monitors. This will be strictly enforced. There is no theme, but we welcome all media including painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, printmaking, photography, assemblage, video. Work must be ready to hang. Sculpture must be provided with shelf and anchoring for secure wall mounting. Wall mounted monitors must be provided for videos.

 

Fees: The entry fee of $30 will cover the submission of up to three (3) works of art. If more than three works are submitted, only the first three will be considered. The preferred payment is through PayPal on our website or by credit card at the gallery. Money orders should be made payable to "440 Gallery Ltd" and mailed to: 440 Gallery, 440 Sixth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY11215. No personal checks.

 

Sales: Unless noted, all submissions will be available for sale. The gallery will take 20% of sales as a commission.

 

Submissions and Digital specifications: Deadline is Saturday, November 3, 2012. Submit JPEG images by email to show@440gallery.com, making sure the full image will fit on a laptop screen, 72 dpi resolution and RGB color mode (no CMYK). Label each image with your last name and a number, which corresponds to a title list. The title list should be in a separate document file attached to the email.  The title list must include for each submission: number, artist's name, title, medium, size (HxWxD in inches) and price. 

 

For example: 

1. Picasso, Pablo, "Figure in Blue", oil on linen, 12" x 12", $5

2. Picasso, Pablo, "Nudes Descending", oil on linen, 12" x 12", $5

3. Picasso, Pablo, "African Mask", mixed media, 12" x 12", $10

 

Also, in the title list include your complete contact information: email address, telephone number and postal address. This information will be used by the gallery only for administrative purposes.

 

You may send a CD with the same specifications to: 440 Gallery, 440 Sixth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215. U.S MAIL ONLY, NO FEDEX or UPS. DO NOT use a mailing method that requires a signature upon receipt.

 

Artwork shipping: Shipping instructions will be sent to artists whose work has been accepted into the exhibition.

More About Our Jurors

Michelle Segre is a sculptor who has exhibited her work widely since the mid-1990's.  She has had solo shows at the Derek Eller Gallery in New York, the Daniel Weinberg Gallery in Los Angeles, Murray Guy Gallery, NY, and the Susan Inglett Gallery in NY.  She has participated in group shows at the American Academy of Arts and Letters, NY, the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in NY, the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, CT, the Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga Springs, NY, the Kemper Museum in Kansas City, and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Colorado, amongst others.  Segre has taught at both New York University and the Cooper Union School of Art.  She currently teaches at Laguardia Community College, CUNY.  In June 2013 Segre will be having her first mid-career survey at the University Art Museum in SUNY Albany.  She is represented by the Derek Eller Gallery in New York, where she lives.

Steve DiBenedetto is a painter who lives in New York and has been showing his work in the United States and Europe since the mid-1980's.  Past solo shows have included the  David Nolan Gallery in NY, the Daniel Weinberg Gallery in Los Angeles, Baumgartner Gallery in NY, Rolf Ricke Gallery in Koln, Tony Shafrazi Gallery in NY, the University Art Museum in SUNY Albany, and the Consortium in Dijon, France.  A selection of group shows includes the Whitney Museum in NY, the P.S. 1 Center for Contemporary Art in NY, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, NY, the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, CT, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, France, the Magasin-Centre National d'art Contemporaine in Grenoble, France, Nolan Judin Gallery in Berlin, the University of Richmond Museum in Virginia, and the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, NY.  DiBenedetto has taught at the School of Visual Arts, Columbia University, Rutgers University, and the Cooper Union School of Art.  He is represented by the David Nolan Gallery in New York.
