Call for Artists to Submit Proposals for the 2026 New Jersey Climate Resiliency Community-Based Arts Projects

Artist Q&A Session: July 8, 2026

Deadline: July 30, 2026

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts are seeking proposals for four site-specific visual, performance, or time-based projects from artists who live in or near New Jersey for community-focused arts engagements. These opportunities are ideal for teaching artists and those with socially engaged and/or environmentally focused artmaking practices.

Qualified artists are encouraged to submit examples of their previously completed artwork, along with a brief written description of the project idea they propose to create if selected.

Arts projects are to be in public spaces located in the coastal zone (Atlantic County Utilities Authority, Camden Fireworks, City of Hoboken, and Long Beach Island Foundation for the Arts and Sciences) and could include, but would not be limited to, public performances of new compositions, light/projection displays, sculptures, murals, or interdisciplinary installations or performances. View the potential locations Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) have identified.

The CBOs will provide a stipend to the selected artists or artist teams of $24,000 per project, which can be used toward project costs, supplies, travel, and artistic fees as needed.

CBOs and artists will begin conversations immediately after notification of selection. It is anticipated that art installations and public programs will be underway between the Spring and Fall of 2027. Application Deadline: July 30, 2026.
