Call for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Artists

The Squamish Public Library invites artists from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) to submit designs for an interior art installation.

On behalf of the Library, the Squamish Public Library Board recently created a statement on the Library’s commitment to Reconciliation, and wishes to honour and recognize this commitment through a piece that will be visible to all who visit the Library.

The interior location of the art piece offers the opportunity for a showcase of local art, visible to all library patrons. The intention is for the artwork of a Squamish Nation artist to publicly and permanently acknowledge the Library's location on the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation. This art commission aims to celebrate the art, traditions, culture, and land of the Squamish Nation through the unique vision of the artist. Use of Squamish language is welcome in design submissions.

Submission deadline: Friday May 22, 2026

How to Apply

Artists are encouraged to make an appointment to see the building in person. Contact Hilary at hbloom@squamish.ca to book an appointment.

All proposals must be submitted to hbloom@squamish.ca or dropped off at the Library (37907 Second Avenue) by Friday, May 22, 2026, 5:00pm. Only one submission will be accepted per artist. If you have any questions, please contact Hilary at hbloom@squamish.ca.

Canada Reads 2026

Each year five books and five celebrities are selected for CBC's Battle of the Books. Each day, panellists vote to eliminate one book, until a single title is chosen as the title the whole country should read this year.

  • Hockey YouTube personality and podcaster Steve “Dangle” Glynn champions Searching for Terry Punchout by Tyler Hellard
  • Musician and writer Tegan Quin champions The Cure for Drowning by Loghan Paylor

  • BookTok star Morgann Book champions It's Different This Time by Joss Richard

They will debate their choices over four days, eliminating one book each day until there is one winning book.
