By this notice, the Executive Committee announces the annual call for candidates to fill Officer and Director Positions on the Executive Board of the Washington Association of Public Records Officers (WAPRO). The positions available for election and the terms are as follows:
Vice President (one-year term);
Treasurer (two-year term);
Secretary (two-year term); and
TwoDirector positions (two-year term for each Director).
Terms commence December 1 each year. Job descriptions for these positions can be found on the WAPRO website.
Active members of WAPRO in good standing are eligible for nomination. Service in these positions is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in the direction of WAPRO and the ongoing educational, planning, and advocacy activities of the association.
There is an expectation for active participation of board members. The Board meets monthly, normally scheduled for the third Thursday of each month. Attendance by conference call is allowed if a board member resides in another part of the State, or periodically by those members unable to attend in person due to time constraints (this should be an exception to in-person attendance). If you would like to be nominated and stand for election to one of these positions, please adhere to the following instructions:
1.Complete the accompanying Declaration of Candidacy. A declaration with an original signature is required.
2.Prepare and transmit a Candidate Statement. The statement must be no more than 200 words in length including the candidate’s name, title, place of employment, and a statement of why election to office is sought. All words of more than one letter, all groups of numbers, and abbreviations or acronyms will be counted as one word. An additional statement in MS Word or via email is encouraged.
3.Send a signed Letter of Support. A letter to the association signed by the candidate’s supervisor supporting the candidacy and the candidate’s increased involvement in WAPRO. A letter of support with original signature is required. An electronic copy via email is also encouraged.
The above application materials must be received by Jenny Hallengren-Sawyer for Executive Committee consideration no later than September 5, 2019. Elections will be held in October 2019 at the Annual Fall Conference. An electronic copy of the required documentation is encouraged; however, signed originals of the Declaration of Candidacy and the Letter of Support must be provided in hard copy and received by September 5, 2019.
