Dear School of Medicine Faculty,

The UCSF School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a new Director of the PRIME-US program (55%) effort) beginning July 1, 2022. ThProgram in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US) is a five-year longitudinal track at the UCSF School of Medicine and the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program for medical students who are committed to working with historically marginalized communities in an urban setting. PRIME-US aims to prepare participating students for future health equity leadership careers as clinicians, educators, researchers, advocates, and activists.

The current PRIME-US Director, Leigh Kimberg, MD, Professor of Medicine has communicated to us her intention to step down from the director position this summer. We are deeply grateful for her leadership and dedication to both our PRIME-US students and the mission of the University of California PRIME programs.

Jyothi Marbin, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, and Director, UC Berkeley - UCSF Joint Medical Program will be chairing the search committee for Dr. Kimberg’s replacement. The link to the full job description and required qualifications is below.

This position reports to the Associate Dean for Curriculum and the Vice Dean for Education. The director collaborates with UCSF School of Medicine leadership and UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program leadership. Candidates must possess MD or DO degree and be at an Associate or Full Professor rank. Experience and/or advanced degree in public health is preferable. 

Ideal candidates will have:
  • Experience caring for under-resourced and historically marginalized populations
  • Experience in, and passion for, mentorship, support, teaching, and advocacy on behalf of diverse learners including those from groups historically excluded from medicine
  • Expertise in medical education
  • Experience in community engagement, including partnering with community members and organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (please see full job description)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
