Call for Nominations: SAFE Prescribed Burning Activity on the Disney Wilderness Preserve in Conjunction with the 7th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress
Hello All!
SAFE has partnered with The Nature Conservancy to offer two days of prescribed burn activity for students on Sunday and Monday, December 3-4, at the Disney Wilderness Preserve. This event is being held in conjunction with the 7th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress in Orlando, Florida.
We will be staying on property at the DWP and there are only 10 spaces available. We are making selections to ensure we have a diverse group of participants, both in education and experience. This event is only open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. You must be a national member of SAFE to participate.
If you would like to be considered for the student prescribed burn group, please complete the google docs link below by
September 1st. We will respond by September 10th.
Please note, required PPE includes the following:
- Hardhat
- Leather gloves
- Sunglasses/safety glasses
- Ear plugs
- Leather boots with vibram sole that are 8 inches tall
- Fire Shelter
- Nomex pants and long sleeve shirt

The Disney Wilderness Preserve is located in Kissimmee, FL about 45 minutes from the conference site. Transportation will be provided to participants.
