We are inviting graduate students to submit research papers for our 2026 Graduate Student Conference. This conference serves as a strategic forum for the next generation of defence analysts, policy practitioners, and security scholars to advance rigorous discourse on Canadian defence policy, national security imperatives, and Canada's evolving strategic posture within an increasingly complex global security environment.

Submission Requirements

Short Biography: A brief academic or professional biography of the author.

Abstract: Outline your interest in the selected theme and your paper’s proposed argument or contribution in 200 words and submit it via this interest form by April 8, 2026.

Full Paper: 3,000 words, submitted by May 1st, 2026.
- Papers can be submitted in English or French.
Presentations
On the day of the conference, you will be asked to present your paper and its key arguments. Presentations will be 7-8 minutes long. Each student will be asked at least one question by the judge panel. Students may use visual support for their presentation. Additional information on what to expect the day of the event will be provided to applications whose abstracts are selected. Presentations can be in English or French.
Key Dates
April 8, 2026: Biography & 200 word statement of interest submission
deadline. Successful applicants will be notified the following week.
May 1st, 2026: Paper deadline, full paper submission, 3,000 words.
May 6, 2026: Networking Reception
May 7, 2026: Graduate Student Conference
Awards & Recognition
The CDA Institute will recognize outstanding contributions through the following awards:
First place – $3,000
Second Place – $2,000
Third Place – $1,000
Honourable Mentions (4) – $750 each
The highest-ranked papers will be considered for publication with the CDA Institute.
