VCCA Fellows Council

Deadline: October 31, 2022
Greetings Fellows,

We write to invite you to consider serving on the Fellows Council, an advisory group made of up artists who have attended VCCA.

As you probably know, this is a special time at the VCCA. We are celebrating VCCA’s 50th Anniversary, VCCA now owns the Mt. San Angelo property, there have been major upgrades to the facilities and grounds, and we are working hard to expand the reach and awareness of VCCA's wonderful residency program.

Serving on the Fellows Council offers the opportunity to help our beloved VCCA continue to thrive into the future. It is a chance to meet other Fellows and work with staff and the Board of Directors to move VCCA forward.

Elected members of the VCCA Fellows Council:

  1. Serve four-year terms;
  2. Represent Fellows' interests and help improve the residency experience;
  3. Contribute to VCCA's efforts to build and foster a diverse and inclusive community of outstanding writers, visual artists, and composers;
  4. Administer the Wachtmeister Award;
  5. Nurture the engagement of VCCA Fellows and supporters;
  6. Serve on one or more of three standing committees: Cultivation, Governance, and Special Projects.

While it is an honor to serve on the Council, it is more than an honorary position. We expect active participation in supporting the objectives of VCCA, with an average time commitment of 3-4 hours a month. In addition to administering the Wachtmeister Award, some recent Council initiatives include:

  • Outreach to increase diversity among the VCCA community
  • Auction of Fellows’ works as part of annual fundraising effort
  • Reunions at AWP, in NYC, DC, and around the country
  • Outreach to international Fellows
  • Virtual Fireplace Series event hosting

We will have four open meetings via Zoom with current Fellows Council members on hand to answer any questions about service on the council. Prospective nominees are invited to register for an info session that best fits their schedule:

  • Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m. ET
  • Monday, September 12, at 7 p.m. ET
  • Saturday, October 15, at 1 p.m. ET
  • Monday, October 17, at 7 p.m. ET

You are welcome to submit a self-nomination by October 31, 2022. The online self-nomination form asks you to agree to the expectations of serving on the Fellows Council, provide basic biographical and contact information, and answer the following five questions, each with a character limit of 700:

  1. What draws you to service on the Fellows Council?
  2. How much time could you commit to meetings and service per month? Please describe your availability.
  3. What project could you envision implementing in support of the VCCA artistic community?
  4. Please share any experience relevant to service on the Fellows Council.
  5. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself and your experience with VCCA?

We will announce those elected to the Fellows Council on December 15, 2022, with the four-year term to begin January 1, 2023.
We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest in contributing to the thriving community that is VCCA.

All best,
