President's Message - Dr. Danielle Carter

Childhood Vaccines: Stay the Course!

President Trump signed an executive order on Aug. 10 to narrow federal childhood immunization recommendations while also promoting separate visits and single-disease shots. The order, which also directs an HHS review, was not based on any new studies or information concerning current vaccine recommendations. It also does not immediately alter Florida's school-entry requirements. These are governed by a combination of state law and administrative rule, which currently remain unchanged. Florida physicians should continue to encourage childhood vaccination for school entry.

The FAFP is aware that federal actions could influence future state policy changes and remains steadfastly committed to ensuring the vaccines required by state law and administrative rule remain unchanged. The FAFP continues to support the AAFP’s advocacy for patient-centered, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and encourages the use of the AAFP's vaccine schedule. More information will be provided to the FAFP membership as it becomes available.
