Call for Volunteers: National Night Out 2021
For the first time, Alexandria’s Opioid Work Group (OWG) will join communities across the country in celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3. For those who have not experienced this event, it is a fun evening where over 30 neighborhoods around the City host events, block parties, and barbeques, with the goal of preventing crime by building a sense of community.

The OWG is recruiting volunteers to assist in distributing Narcan to the community at these events. Narcan is an opioid overdose reversal medication that can help save a life in the midst of a crisis. No previous experience is required to volunteer.

Volunteer responsibilities will include:
  • Contacting Emily Bentley at [email protected] or 703.746.3326 to receive information about Narcan and neighborhood assignments.
  • Picking up supplies at 720 North Saint Asaph Street prior to August 3.
  • Distributing Narcan to National Night Out attendees.
  • Having fun, eating good food, and snapping some pictures!

The time commitment will be from approximately 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, plus a brief phone call or virtual meeting before the event to receive instructions and answer any questions.
