Call To Action - Tell the Broomfield Council

to Stop Abusing Their Expense Policy

At the January 14, 2025 City Council Meeting at 6PM, The Broomfield Council will vote on a resolution as part of the Consent Agenda to change their own expense policy so that it can be "shared" (abused) across councilmembers.

Here is the Staff Memo and the Resolution for item 6C on the Consent Agenda that they plan to vote on and pass. This resolution that would change their own expense policy is clumped together with 9 other items on the Consent Agenda that will be voted on all at once.

So, why does the Broomfield Council want to make this policy change on how they can spend your tax dollars that they have access to through their expense budget? Well, the 2024 Expense Report for Elected Officials shows how they mis-managed their expense budget last year. Three Councilmembers - Councilmember Marsh-Holschen (Ward 1), Councilmember Ward (Ward 2), and Councilmember Henkel (Ward 5) - drastically overspent their agreed-to expense budget in 2024. (See below, information source - 2024 Expense Report for Elected Officials)

Rather than being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers and holding each other accountable to not abuse their expense budget, some Councilmembers want to slip this resolution through and change their own expense policy after it was abused in 2024. They are hoping that the public (and you, the taxpayer) won't notice. They are going to attempt to pass the resolution under the Consent Agenda which means that there will not be a specific, proper discussion by the Broomfield Council on the resolution.

The Broomfield Council needs to hear from you. Make your Voice Heard!

Tell the Broomfield Council to vote no on Consent Agenda Item 6C, and stop abusing your money and their expense budget.

1) Email your Councilmembers, Mayor, and Mayor Pro-tem TODAY (emails are below) and tell them to move Consent Agenda Item 6C "Proposed Resolution for Updating the Expense Policy for Elected Officials" from the Consent Agenda to the Action Items Agenda and provide a proper reading, public comment, and Council discussion on the resolution.

2) Attend the January 14, 2025 City Council Meeting at 6PM and tell them what you think about them changing their own expense policy to allow them to abuse your tax dollars and their expense budget.

The Broomfield Council expense budget is as important as the entire City budget, because you are paying their bills and for their abuses of the expense budget. The Broomfield Council needs to act responsibly with your money and stop abusing it.
